The day was Saturday. The weather was lovely. I was feeling somewhat hung over.
What better to do on a trip up to the highlands than to stop into Pitlochry and have a light brunch in the sunshine. Well can you think of anything better to do? Exactly!
So my partner, my friend, and myself decided after looking into a few cafes that Pasha's would be the best place to grab a breakfast roll and a coffee to take away. How wrong we were.
I normally talk about the greetings I receive when entering a restaurant but here I can't. I was approached by a confusingly unapproachable man. A man who either hates people, his job, or maybe he was feeling hung over and uninspired (as I was feeling at this point, as in my heart of hearts all I kept thinking was "why don't we just go to Gregg's").
We spoke to the man and informed him that we were after a few breakfast items to take away - which confused him more.
We sat down, he brought menus, and we had a look. Oh! He did tell me what the soup of the day was - which was actually 3 soups.
My partner offered a black pudding roll. My friend order a bacon roll. I thought I'd be a little healthy and ordered the Lentil soup. "All to take away" he asked. "Yes" I replied.
As he started walking away I asked if we could order some drinks. A latte, a green tea, and a cappuccino. "To sit in" he questioned. "No. To take away" I answered, with a confused look on my face.
He strolled off, slowly.
My partner questioned why we would have the coffees to sit in and the food to take away. I had no answer.
The man came back with the bill.
£18. £18 for 2 rolls, a soup, 2 coffees, and a tea! £18! I was blown away, but paid regardless. "This best be some amazing coffee and soup" I thought.
The coffees were made and left on the counter by the till. The man then pointed to the coffees. Great service here as we were made to walk from our sits to get our coffee. Why?! Why not bring us our drinks?! - I understand at this point I might seem a little spoilt but for £18 I think I should at least have my coffee brought to me.
The food arrived shortly after and we left.
I tried my coffee. It was awful. Just tasted like hot water.
I opened my soup and dipped in the roll. Terrible! So much so I thought "this roll is off", so I threw it in the bin. Armed with my plastic spoon I dipped into the soup. Dreadful! I couldn't place what was the issue was until I notice the flour. I assume they had tried to thicken up the soup by adding flour but clearly added too much. After a few more tried this too went into the bin.
In short:
Terrible service Awful coffee Disappointing food Too expensive considering how terrible everything is.
Don't waste your time...
Read moreKerbside appeal wasn't good. Overhead canopies were very dirty and tired. Desperately needs to be replaced or at least removed. Also, there was an A board with pictures of meals on which we're not appealing. In fact, if I had paid attention to this as many people would. I would not have gone in. I never noticed these till leaving. However, the restaurant across the road was full and I put my attention on looking inside to see how it looked and if it was busy. I was with 3 other people and the consensus was it looked OK. There were a few tables taken but not many. Which made me wonder if it was going to be ok. The town was very busy, there was even a large queue at the ice cream shop, which might be very good but it was a cold day. The restaurant sounded like it would have an Asian menu, possibly Indian. Also, the decor suggested this too. Maybe this also would limit the number of people it appealed to. However, the menu covered many options including Indian and Pizza etc. A very large selection. A well-known Scottish chef would be complaining about how difficult they were making things for themselves. We were greeted politely on entry and shown to a table near the window. We ordered drinks and food. The waiter wasn't great at his wine knowledge and didn't make us feel relaxed. One Pizza a salmon dish with rice, which had been altered from the menu selection didn't seem to be a problem and two Kormas. One Chicken and one Lamb with a Peshwari nan. All the food arrived without any problem correctly and was well presented and everyone agreed it was all very good. In fact, it may have been the best Chicken Korma I have had. The only slight disappointment was the Naan filling was a bit gritty. Maybe sugar? was causing this. The waiter appeared to be disappointed that we did not order dessert. Overall a much better experience than I expected. A few more pleasantries from the staff. A spruce up to the outside and make it look less like an Indian Restaurant and I'm sure it would improve the number of...
Read moreThe worst restaurant ever! The place was empty on arrival which was surprising on a holiday weekend when everywhere else was so busy. My husband and i ordered lasagne which we thought was overpriced at 15 quid but we were hopeful it would be worth it. We couldnt believe what arrived.....2 perfectly square slabs of what resembled dog food when cut open which had clearly been microwaved from the freezer! There was no way this had been homemade the mince was not even mince im not sure what it was and the white stuff on top was tasteless and lumpy it was unbelievable that anyine would serve this we could have got a better micro lasagne from tesco! Also the waiter didnt seem to understand us very well and we ended up with a mountain of extra chips when we had asked if it came with chips and had been told no....we asked the waiter if it was homemade and he replied yes but it was obvious from his face that he knew it hadnt. I ate some of mine as i was so hungry by this point but soon regretted it as my stomach was so sore i had to go back to our hotel and lie down. To top it all off they presented us with a bill for 49 quid when we only had 3 glasses of tap water with it?!! Shocking place avoid at...
