Review of dinner (party of two vegetarians), 08/07/2022
FOOD - PAPADOMS Papadoms (plain and masala) were fresh, crispy, tasty and served with a tray of dips (onion (dried out/ stale), yoghurt-mint-sauce (gloopy, questionable freshness), mango chutney (gloopy)). The containers (bowls) in the tray of dips were quite large so the tray will almost certainly have been given to previous customers (potentially even with the same spoons). Also, there were sauce/ chutney "smearings" already on the bowls (off-putting and hygienically questionable).
FOOD - MAINS We ordered two vegetarian dishes. The taste of the vegetable vindaloo was satisfactory and the dish was propely spicy but it was way way too oily and the vegetables were extremely mushy. Based on the consistency, I would assume that frozen/ pre-cooked vegetables have been used rather than fresh/ "real" veg (potatoes had a funny consistency, carrots and other veg were extremely soft resulting in an unsatisfactory bite-sensation). The taste of the vegetable biryani was also satisfactory and extra chilies were added as requested. However, the dish suffered from the same veg-consistency-issue as the vindaloo. We did not eat any of the complimentary salad as we were unsure if it was washed.
CLEANLINESS We noticed a number of stains on the waiters clothes/ aprons. Appearance/ hygiene does not seem to have highest priority. Male toilets were shocking in terms of cleanliness (toilet seat broken, toilets very dirty).
PRICE The price of the two meals was quite high, especially considering what we got for it. In general, everything on the menu seemed pricier than it should have been, even considering the touristic location.
AFTERMATH/ VERDICT The overall experience was so-so. The food was definitely not up to standard but the taste was okay and we did not leave hungry. I got spicy/ burning diarrhea the next morning which can definitely be traced back to the food. I thus do not have much faith in the hygiene during food preparation. As the restaurant is in a tourist hotspot, return customers may be limited. I would not come back here or...
Read moreDisappointing as only stayed in Pitlochry for two nights and one was wasted visiting this restaurant.
From the outside it looked lovely and was busy inside which is normally a good sign. We booked a table in advance. We sat at the table and were given the menus, within just a few minutes the waitress approached asking if we were ready to order - we hadnt even had a chance to look at the menu yet. She approached us twice in quick succession - we felt a bit rushed and unwelcome at this point and ordered without having a proper look at the menu. We ordered poppadoms and dips while we waited on our starter - poppadoms were stale and not prepared to order. Our starters arrived and the waiter whipped away or poppadoms and starters without checking if we were finished. I ordered the vegetable samosas which were not frozen not freshly made and this was evident when biting into one and discovering it was frozen inside. My husband had the butterfly prawns - there was nothing authentically indian about these at all - even the sauce was tastless and oily. We sent back the samosa and these were returned to us cooked through and we received and apology from the waiter. The mains arrived and thankfully this was a better course than the starters. The mixed grill went down well, and the chilli garlic chicken was tasty with plenty spice. We were offered containers to take any leftovers home.
We ordered a soft drink and a beer at the start of the meal which lasted us through the meal as it was so rushed. The waiter arrived with our bill without asking if we wanted dessert or drinks. After paying, we thought we could relax and finish our drink however a waiter approached our table and told us we needed to drink up as someone was waiting on our table - we had only been in the restaurant for approx an hour and 15 mins. I felt this was extremely rude, I appreciate restaurants are busy post lockdown however we had paid £70 for a meal which was rushed and below average, to then be asked to leave our table was the final insult. Certainly would not recommend or return to this restaurant. Very...
Read moreWe were in Pitlochry for a weekend away and for the most of the time we had a great time , then the night before we left we decided to go here and we ended up wishing we hadn't. A woman showed us to seats at the window and her manner was a bit abrupt , she through the menus on the table and asked if we wanted drinks , we ordered soft drinks and she looked disgusted , (not everyone drinks alcohol) , then asked what we wanted to eat . We both had curry with rice and only needed one naan so that's what we ordered , she kept asking if we wanted starters and 4 times I said no , that was her disgusted again . The meal arrived 35 minutes later and I knew when I saw the colour of my tikka that I wasn't going to enjoy it , it tasted of aniseed and it was bright red , being hungry I ate but did not enjoy it one bit . A male came over and cleared our table and asked if we enjoyed our meal , I said no but he never asked me why . We still had our drinks and it was only a few minutes since the table was cleared and the female come over a through the bill on the table . I wasn't finished so I wasn't paying until I was leaving and she kept watching us . A few minutes later we asked to pay and she was huffing and tutting because she had to get the machine so we could pay by card , when we checked the bill we were both disgusted for what we bought 2 curries 2 white rice 1 naan and 2 soft drinks the bill came to over £45 . For a restaurant outside Glasgow or any big city I think they should have a look at there costing because that is far to much for what we bought . We can buy the same in Glasgow City centre for a lot less and we get a lot better service to. Not sure if there the only Indian restaurants in Pitlochry but I won't be going in this shop again . ..... I'm giving 1 star as it won't let me...
