I don't leave low ratings lightly and I first went here in 2019 and really liked it. However I returned recently and was very disappointed. The toilets were unsanitary. The sink had that build up of dust you see when it hasn't been cleaned in days and there was no soap. This was at the start of the evening when they were quiet with only one other table in so there's no reason for a daily clean and soap check not to have been done. The menu doesn't state vegan options, though I'm sure it used to, so I asked if certain dishes on the menu were/could be made vegan. Waitress checked and confirmed yes which was helpful. However my main course then was served with half a boiled egg on the side. I politely advised this wasn't vegan and asked if there was anything else in the dish that made it non-vegan. Waitress took it away and returned it less than a minute later with pickled ginger over the spot where the egg had been and no apology or assurance that other ingredients were vegan. I found this disappointing considering the notices up advising to discuss dietary/allergy requirements with your server. The rest of the food order was ok, aside from sushi falling apart, though it's nothing that you can't find in another venue in Central Glasgow that understands food and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited Nuku Nuku with my wife, and unfortunately, the experience didnāt live up to our expectations. While Iāll speak primarily for myself, itās fair to say that neither of us enjoyed our visit.
From the moment we arrived, the service felt rushed and inattentive. It seemed like a delivery was being handled at the same time we were trying to place our order, and I got the impression the staff were more focused on that than on us as customers. I was trying to get a feel for the menu and asked the hostess a few questions, but it felt like I was being hurried along rather than helped.
I ordered one of the set meals, which came with a few different items. Unfortunately, everything I received was overly oily ā to the point where it overwhelmed any potential flavour the dishes might have had. I left feeling unsatisfied and a bit disappointed, especially considering I was genuinely excited to try the place.
First impressions matter, and sadly, Nuku Nuku just didnāt make a good one for me. I hope this was just an off day for them, but based on this experience, Iām not in a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell this is actually Stephanieās mom who is wondering why Stephanie is signed into my iPad. Nuku Nuku. We happened on this by chance. It did not show up on any searches so it was a pleasant surprise. First the things they do well. Service was excellent, but all in English. Yes, coming from Vancouver we are sushi snobs. This made for interesting questions. The salmon is farmed, there is no hamachi and the eel is freshwater. But the food was great. Some really good fusion ideas (try the duck roll, very tasty).
Room for improvement. I realize the target market is local, not us annoying tourists. There was no low sodium soya and the ginger was the cheaper kind. As well, the nigiri selection was limited. Also there were only two kinds of tea, and the hot one came with matcha.
That said, if I were back in Glasgow I would come here again if only because it had nice fresh product and even if they didnāt have it, they knew their stuff and could...
