If it wasn't for Aimee, this would be a 2* review.
We had a room booked for a birthday celebration, over £150 a night. I was looking forward to using the gym and salt sauna, the main reason for booking here.
My wife had checked in, and everything was fine. I arrived at the room later. It's a standard hotel room, but felt sparser. The room was roasting though, uncomfortably warm. I turned down the thermostat to 19degrees, which made no difference. There was no fridge, water or biscuits which considering the cost of the room and the quality of Glasgow water, is below expectations.
I then went to check out the sauna and gym, only to be denied access. This is when i found Aimee. She is a credit to your hotel and recovered what would have been a negative review of an underwhelming hotel.
The hotel is currently working to find a sustainable partner to supply a welcome water or biscuits or room supplies. Access to the sauna is for an additional fee and 1hr slots can be booked at reception. £15 if you are in a normal room, free if it is an upgraded room. I never made it to the gym, running out of time but did manage the salt sauna, which was really nice. The plunge pool was (IMO) too cold. My skin was tingling sore after the plunge, I believe it is a steady 5degrees, which is colder than the North Sea in winter time.
The changing room is along the hallway, and has a shower. Unfortunately, there was no towels, so i had to run back to the sauna room to bring a towel to the shower. I would have showered in the sauna, there is one there, but it isn't wholly clear if access is given to anyone else whilst I was in there. It would be a bit awkward if I was changing and someone else was allowed access.
So going back to the shower, I noticed that the shower tray was not draining and managed to flood the room. Again, with 1 towel, i had to run back to the sauna to find another couple of towels to soak up the overflowed shower tray. Fun times. I let reception know.
The room was still uncomfortably hot throughout the whole night. The sound proofing is excellent though, I tried to open the window but the road and traffic noise was incredibly loud, and needed to be closed. The walk to the room is dark, so many door and hallways, almost a bit discombobulating.
The tv channel guide was barely displaying any of the programs, and to scroll down you hit the down button but whilst watching tv, if you want to go down a channel, you hit the up button. Made no sense. The bed was comfy though. The bathroom and shower was fine, no complaint apart from rawling holes in the tiles, needs some maintenance.
I had the breakfast option but decided it was safer not to. None of the hot items looked unappealing. The pastries and cereal was fine. I took a flat white to go, nice touch having the takeway cups, sadly the coffee was horrible and went in the bin. I am a coffee snob and have high standards in this regard.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience and over-priced. However, if it wasn't for Aimee, this would have been a solid...
Read moreI recently stayed here (15th - 16th August) and honestly it’s absolutely fantastic. I didn’t know much about the hotel before we stayed however I booked it without reading too many reviews as I didn’t want to be influenced. I can’t believe how impressed I was. For somewhere supposedly three star it far exceeds expectations. Firstly, the Reception team were great. Quick and efficient and answered all the main questions (without having to ask) straightaway. Secondly, the air conditioning. For someone who has recently visited a five star hotel with no air conditioning during the heatwave I was so happy and impressed the room had such good air conditioning. This in itself is enough reason to rebook. Thirdly, the room was lovely. Spacious and felt well thought out when designed. The little box of chocolates and water with proper glasses was a beautiful touch. The bed was enormous and so comfortable. Socket points on either side of the bed was also a plus. The mirror where the TV is also had a socket which was great for doing hair in the morning. It doesn’t sound like much but all these little details add up to a really convenient experience. Good size towels in the bathroom, which isn’t always the case. Nice smelling toiletries, again not always guaranteed. I caught myself saying to my partner more than once “I really like it here”. I’m not always the easiest to please (admittedly so!) but this place hits the mark every time. Breakfast the next day was equally impressive. The staff member who sat us was friendly and lovely and again just answered all the questions without needing to be asked. The breakfast selection is vast. There’s something for everyone and the milk alternatives were a great touch. Again, doesn’t sound like much but it just felt well thought out. Now my favourite thing about breakfast was the addition of takeaway cups at the coffee station. This is genius. I haven’t seen this before but I always wish I could take my coffee back to the room with me and this really pleased me. I couldn’t find fault with the quality of any of the breakfast items. As for the rest of the stay, the shower pressure was excellent and check out was smooth. What more could you want from a central city location? It was extremely reasonable and I’ve stayed in all the major hotels in Glasgow, most of which are more expensive, and this outshines them....
Read moreThis review is meant for the new hotel located at 139-142, West George Street. I stayed at the hotel for 6 days from 26 Aug 24 – 31 Aug 24. The hotel ambience is great, very clean and very conveniently located at Glasgow city Centre I appreciated that the hotel management arranges housekeeping services daily to keep all the rooms neat and clean. The hotel needs to improve the buffet breakfast menu, because they serve the same thing every day and you will lose the appetite to dine in after 3 days of stay at the hotel. They need to have some changes of menu to create the excitement for the guess to dine in for breakfast. I am giving a 1-star rating not for the hotel but for the customer service, because I was disappointed with the attitude of 1 employee, name “Luis” who claims to be the manager at the hotel. She was at the front desk on the 26 Aug 2024 at 11pm. During that time, I had difficulties to check in due to some miscommunication given by my company regarding payments. Luis gave me a lot of attitude and responded to me very sarcastically, during the situation, examples of her comments were“How does your company send you for a business trip and not sort this out for you? I do not understand”. She also passed a lot of other negative comments which really made me upset. I was tired after a long 18-hour travel time and I had no time to argue with her. I just wanted a solution and needed to check in. She was not helpful and kept responding to me as if she does not want me to be there at the hotel, just because I am having issues with payment. After about 1 hour, I manage to get the payment resolved and suddenly, she becomes super nice and the customer service comes out of her naturally. This is what you call bullshit hospitality. Her staff who was next to her, not sure if she is French or Spanish, was so much better than her. While I was sorting out the payment issue and seated at the front hotel desk, her staff came to me, offered me a glass of water, and told me to take my time to sort out the issue. She even offered me some options of other hotels nearby which can take me in at 12am, just for the night with cash payment and I can come back tomorrow morning to settle this issue. She was so much nicer compared to Luis who literally did not want me to be there. Hotel management needs to send Luis for training on how to...
