Booked a table for 6 and the restaurant were desperate for a £10 per head deposit, which had to be in cash. 2 of the table of 6 could not attend.
We arrive just before the time of the booking but can’t get seated because there is an issue with some of the spotlights in the restaurant. It is the brightest restaurant in scotland, it really was not an urgent issue. At our table we had someone with technical expertise that offered to assist with the light issue, which the restaurant took him up on.
By the time we were seated, we were 30 mins past the booked time. Food really average and over cooked. The Xmas menu mixed sharing platter came with 4 pieces of chicken pakora between 4 people and filled with much cheaper mushroom pakora and cheap greasy potato fritter things. On top, we were server 1 x small sliced onions between 4 people. Do not order the Xmas menu it is a rip off. Curries all pretty average and chicken dried out.
We bought a number of pints of beer and the bill was over £150. The restaurant decided to pocket £20 of the £60 deposit because 2 people didn’t turn up from the original table of 6, as well as a 15% service charge. I challenged this because we were sat 30 mins late, my friend helped them with their lighting issue, the bill was still over £150 but they were not having it.
The whole thing was stinking of absolute money grabbing. Food was poor quality and the Xmas menu poor quality and just a money making exercise packed with cheap food (potato fritters and mushrooms) instead of more expensive chicken pakora.
A fairly loyal customer over the years but this is my last, the rest of the table...
Read moreMy family always go out for a meal on Xmas eve and the experience we had last year prompted us to go to spice again this year but the experience was much different, we had booked well in advance and paid £60 deposit, when we arrived we were seated in the bar area and when we asked for a high chair for our 3 yr old (which was booked in advance) we were told they were all being used so she had to sit on our knee during the meal, the food was fantastic and young friendly staff who served us couldn't do enough for us but the service and length of time between courses was a joke, we had to repeatedly ask for food or drinks that we ordered, we waited about 20 mins after we asked for the bill, eventually the manager came over with the bill and asked us for the receipt for the deposit which in my opinion they should already have a note of and automatically taken off the bill, the bill did seem quite hefty but it wasn't itemised for every item we ordered so difficult to check if we were being overcharged, so two extremely different experiences from last...
Read moreDecent experience. I’d say the service was brilliant, that would probably be more of a 4/5 star based on that alone as the staff were very friendly, welcoming and worked efficiently. The food was decent, however, I wouldn’t advise ordering the soup. It was 100% canned, so it was soft and mushy like the Heinz soup (pretty sure it was Heinz soup) which is very disappointing to receive at a restaurant as you’d expect it to be homemade. The main was decent, the rice and sauce were lovely, as well as the nan bread but the chicken was slightly tough and dry but still edible. Because of the food I’d give a 3 star. I did attend the lunch menu between 12-4 so the value was brilliant, 3 courses for £10 basically so I do feel it was great value for money, I just didn’t expect to have canned soup lol. The restaurant itself was nice to sit in and was very clean and fresh looking/well maintained. I would recommend this restaurant as its definitely good value for money and a nice experience but do not order the soup, just get pakoras...
