The look of the restaurant caught our eyes upon visiting this cute little town so we decided to come in for dinner. And oh boy… I think the food was absolutely the most disappointing part of this whole experience. We have ordered a crab starter with lemon and chili, which was tasting only chili. There was no room for any crab or any flavor but spicy. I really enjoy a spicy dish (i like to eat raw chili too), but this dish lacked any other taste. For mains we have ordered a pork fillet and a smoked fish dish. The pork fillet was a fancier sunday roast that lacked any salt basically. On the other hand the smoked fish with leek had all the salt in the world. I needed to drink water after every bite. I think the only item on our table that was actually great was the home made bread. I am saad to say it was a very very disappointing experience. We have been to this place with our baby, which was not a great idea I admit, however the staff turned very cold, once our little one started crying. We tried to wrap it up super quickly. By the end we felt they also rushed us out to the extent that they forgot to give us our coats back. So I needed to quickly remind them. Overall I would not recommend this place, tries to be more...
Read moreWe visited The Creel on the 14th February 2020 for a Valentine's Day meal and had a table booked for 6.30pm. However, the doors remained closed until just after 6.30pm where we, along with another couple waited outside in very cold conditions. This, is quite ridiculous and shows little 'Customer Focus'. Upon entering the restaurant it was cold and despite asking, no attempt was made to increase the heating. Moreover, after ordering a £37 bottle of red wine the wine was served very cold and not appetising in the least. Weren't the owners aware of serving red wine at an appropriate temperature? This is not the first time this has happened to us. In summary, although the food was undoubtedly good, bearing in mind the problems encountered, an overall cost of £117.00 for the meal was too much by far. With many new housing developments being built in Dunbar, The Creel needs to improve its attention to detail and its overall performance in order to retain its existing customers and...
Read moreRecently taken over by a young couple on the retirement of the chef they had been working with for some years, this is exactly the type of fantastic independent local restaurant everyone should be supporting. Mum front of house and dad washing dishes, this is a proper family affair.
I booked for a group of 9 on the basis of previous reviews and we were not disappointed. The smoked haddock scotch egg, cured Scottish sea trout and black pudding and haggis croquettes went down very well for starters. The hake main was cooked perfectly and the group loved the grilled mackerel too. The coup de grace was the baked Alaska (and the lemon posset also garnered rave reviews). Accompanied by a few bottles of well chosen wines on the mercifully short wine list, we had an absolutely lovely meal. A final word for the front of house team, who provided superb service. If in the area again we will certainly...
