The Stag — Restaurant in Scotland

Been here a few times in the last 4 months and was very disappointed. Nothing like it used to be a few years ago under the old management. Was in for a few drinks one night and this has gone from a respectable establishment that was pleasant to spend an evening in to an establishment that seems to only care about money over the bar rather than people enjoying themselves. Gave the other side of the business a go when we Went in at midday to the coffee while Xmas shopping only to be told it’s closed but we could have a meal downstairs. So we decito do that. Staff were a bit abrupt and rude. Other place was freezing. But most disappointing was the food. It was ok but nothing like it used to be a few years ago. Certainly not as fresh or as chef prepared as you would expect...

It started bad, someone entering on crutches asked to go to the other end of the room. Then the drinks were wrong I asked for a soda water with a half dash of lime - no lime, the soup came a couple of minutes later asked if everything was alright, said soup fine but the room was freezing - heating was never put on. Main meals came husband asked for a steak pie but what he got was a stew with a bit of pastry put on top, I asked for the chicken burger and chips and coleslaw but it was served on a piece of wood - no plate. Burger was good but I don't like skinny fries , coleslaw chunky. Waitress very sullen she has no idea how to serve public although she did ask right questions but only to my husband as I initially said matters bad. I wont be back...

We hired the stag for my mothers birthday, we were able to use the whole top floor and it was a great success! The staff were so courteous and the owner, Graeme is extremely helpful and very easy to deal with. Everybody RAVED about the food, of which the Stag was kind enough to cater us with (excellent selections).

We were able to decorate the walls with balloons and bunting and play our own music (after a little figuring out). We were also able to host some live music from my mother and her band. Overall the venue was just perfect.

I had a good look around for a venue in Forfar and this was by far the most comfortable and spacious, but also cosy. 5/5! Photos are from when first viewing/ chat...
