Took relatives from abroad to see for themselves the oldest pub in Ayr and was extremely disappointed Firstly was expecting the restaurant to be open as we arrived there at 8pm but was told by the barman in the pub that the kitchen closed at 5pm which was not mentioned on the website Secondly my guests wanted to experience some traditional Scottish ales only to be told the best they could offer was Tennants as the IPA pump was not working and let’s face it Tennants is hardly a beer that endorses the best of Scottish brews They could not offer any bottled IPA as an alternative Thirdly the only dark beer’s available were Guinness or Murphy’s which are both Irish So for a pint of Tennants 2 pints of Murphy’s and a small bottle of non alcoholic beer I was charged over £17 which I feel was a rip off and will not be going back My guests were somewhat disappointed in this their first visit to a so called traditional Scottish pub As the oldest pub in Ayr I strongly suggest you reconsider what traditional Scottish ales you should be offering and ensure the kitchen open and closing times are made more readily available as I am sure many overseas visitors will also feel...
Read moreThis place is a disgrace, went in today for lunch with my wife for her birthday only to be told that i had to leave my mobility scooter outside of the restaurant. I questioned whether I would have been asked to leave a wheelchair outside to be told NO. I told the EXTREMELY rude and condescending member of staff that I would use a wheelchair except (having MS) i am unable to use one due to lack of power and mobility in my hands. Then this staff member asked my wife to move the mobility scooter outside, despite being told i can't walk, so in the event of an emergency i was to burn to death, get crushed my falling items etc. This is not me being excitable this is me risk assessing the situation. To be honest this used to be our favourite place to eat when coming to Ayr however we will NEVER be back again. The attitude of the staff member was that bad another couple who have a disabled son decided not to eat there. This is apparently a standing directive from the owner who, if this is true, needs to be aware ofthe Equalities Act 2010. Please do not go here unless you are willing to be spoken down to as if they are serving you like a lord...
Read moreVery cosy place. We love this place with my husband. Sometimes we are coming especially from Glasgow for the dinner. Just to sit and enjoy. Everything is always yummy. Feels like at home - you don't want to get out . There are pictures on wall showing old times - feels like I was in there in another life. It's strange, but I always have feeling, that I was dreaming about exactly this place, before I even came to UK. And I was wondering that time - I do not know place like this (wet pavement that dream time was brick, stone buildings, this warm light from inside , when outside is just about to get dark), no grass, no trees. But there were black lanterns - I think from different age/ century. Today was windy and rainy. Plant behind window was dancing and Robert Burns smiled from label on bottle, sitting under picture in corner. Definitely it was a very nice afternoon, service very professional and smiling. I recommend for all that experience, like this could be a hundred years ago, and I could hear horse behind window, and people could still talking in...
