The booking system online, along with the confirmation and reminder messages were easy to use and very efficient. I made a phone call to check the carvery was on during the week and was reassured it was, by a gentleman who explained everything in a friendly, cheerful manner, which made me look forward to our meal.
The table (for 18) was all set for our 6:30 arrival - all three tables close together in a corner. Reece behind the bar was extremely attentive on our arrival and throughout our time. He calmly took our order (including three of us who have food allergies), explained the process re allergens and also the carvery arrangements, in addition to efficiently serving our drinks. He had a lovely banter with different members of our party from three generations and he regularly checked we had all our requirements - even suggesting drink options after listening to our preferences. Richard T was amazing behind the carvery - very knowledgeable and reassuring about allergens (or lack of) in each product, serving us with a smile - despite all our allergies - and wishing us an enjoyable meal - having a banter with us in the swiftly moving queue. He also made a point of going off to wash his hands before serving each one with an allergy. The food and drink were excellent - we had carveries, main courses from the menu and a mixture of alcoholic/hot and cold drinks. The beef was particularly nice and the gravy (although a little watery) was really tasty. It was clean plates all round - it’s great that you do three plate size choices as there was absolutely no waste! The other staff were also excellent - constantly moving around ‘multi-tasking’ in terms of clearing/cleaning and serving. The decor is great - mixture of small booths and larger but intimate areas - great pictures on the walls that went around corners. Nice background music - still able to hear each other but not other guests. Clean environment. Nice temperature and atmosphere. Will...
Read moreAn extremely disappointing visit. Having pre-booked a table, when we arrived we were left standing at the desk which stated please wait to be seated. There were staff serving at the bar where we could clearly be seen and staff passing the desk serving meals. Nobody made any attempt to seat us. A queue had formed behind us but still nobody took any effort to deal with it. Eventually a woman from further back in the queue walked to bar staff and spoke to them. Following this, a member of bar staff came to the desk, asked the woman her name and party size. The woman called the rest of her party forward and he took them to a table. A young female then took my details, checked on the computer, told us table 1 and asked to follow her. As she got to a table, which I assumed was the table we had been allocated, she appeared to realise what had happened. She then turned to us and asked if we would sit at a table with a semi-circle bench seating. My son ordered our food at the bar, 3 burger meals and 2 carvery meals. At no point were we made aware that there was very little meat left available at the carvery serving. Despite being charged full price, there was very little meat, mashed potato and peas, only a spoonful of each. On ordering the food, a portion of pigs in blankets was ordered. After waiting a while for them, my son questioned a member of staff, who told him they would go and check on them. By the time they arrived we had eaten our meals. I appreciate that Saturday evenings are likely to be extremely busy but that is why we would pre-book a table. Sorry but The Guelder Rose is somewhere that I would never...
Read moreHaving been to this restaurant many times with family and grandchildren, yesterday's visit will be the last time. Served by Georgia, the rudest person in my opinion,my son arrived a little later he was served by a blonde lady, also incredibly rude. There was a moment our server tutted and rolled her eyes as children couldn't decide which drink they wanted. This made me feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed due to the huge queue building up behind us. There were other staff members sitting at end of bar watching while our server took orders, poored drinks, got cutlery etc. Everything seemed so much trouble to them. Your chef was also a very rude man,I was seriously considering just leaving but having spent almost £100 between all of us and not wanting to disappoint the grandchildren, we stayed. In saying that, the food was good although our carvery meat was almost transparent. Think we will be looking for another venue in future, somewhere the staff have interpersonal skills and actually want to be behind the counter. There was one gentleman staff member who was very helpful, tall fair haired,he was your saving grace!
UPDATE TO YOUR REPLY . You clearly haven't read the reviews on other sites, also stating rude staff, bad attitude, wafer thin meats!! I didn't ask for management, what's the point?? We were their for a family day,so complaining on the day wouldn't have made a difference, the damage had already been done,it shouldn't have happened in the first place. I'm not on my own in regard to your staff etc, read other...
