Read moreSpent the weekend here as the kids wanted to get away so we picked this place at random. The beach whilst vast isn’t really a beach you can go down and have a picnic and play around with on as most of it is under water and when the tide goes out, the sand is very wet. Saying that the beach goes on forever and if you are planning to walk on the sand, make sure you wear your wellies!! The pier is one of the longest piers I have been on and is great for a walk although it can get a little windy at times! There is even a little train which takes you up and down which is worth a go. At the end of the pier there is a cafe and amusement arcade with some old school penny games which was great for nostalgia. The cafe does a great hot chocolate and the ice cream was lovely. There is also a little hut serving fresh donuts which you can never resist because the smell draws you to them. Very friendly lady who served us and even gave us extra donuts! We stayed at Ocean Plaza which was very handy with free parking although the Pleasureland didn’t look that busy and very tired so we gave...
Read moreWow it's been about 40 years since I grew up here, but came back to see what has changed. For who don't no, Southport beach sea is like wooden rocking house pop, rarely seen. Most of the beach really wasn't beach as it was covered ingrasses, the pier (nothing like the picture) it burnt out and not maintained. The marine lake looks just the same 140 acres of water but under utilised. Did I mention the 72 million pounds development planned? Gone are the days of the tide coming in right down to the high street, money well spent on a sea wall after far too many years of floods. If you like feathered birds then you are in for a treat. I spotted so many twitchers with binoculars they could hardly lift up look for a glimpse of the less spotted (hints in the name) ????? Bird. I bet Southport has the highest population of people...
