Response to comment below * Yes my Mum refused because she actually wanted to pay and you said it with an annoyed "oh just have it". Which didn't make it feel like it was a kind gesture.

As you said I recall, you must have been the man I'm talking about so don't say this was not OUR intention. As it was all on you and how you treated my Mum. Not the staff working that day. Don't apologise on their or the companies behalf this was how you made my Mum feel. You have no idea what people coming in to your cafe might be going through. You say you pride yourself on excellent customer service but you as the owner your customer service was awful that day.

Apologising for how we might be feeling is not apologising for your own actions.

So we won't be taking you up on the offer of coming back.

-- Me and my Mum ordered two hot drinks to go. My Mum struggles to see writing without her glasses so didn't see the small sign that said minimum spend on card was £5 - (which seems bizarre in a world where barely anyone does this anymore - especially not in a place that serves hot drinks to go under this price) nor did the staff member mention anything.

After realising my Mum wanted to pay on card and had no change the staff member spoke to this grey haired man that appeared to be in charge. My mum politely said to him due to her not being able to read the writing that it would be better if he made the sign bigger for people who might struggle to see it like her. This grey haired man shouted from the other side of the cafe "Well how big do you want it then!". (Infront of shocked looking customers). Absolutely disgusting customer service. This man was rude to my mum that day for no reason. After paying we left and tried our drinks my Mum's coffee was barely warm and my hot chocolate was that creamy barely tasting of chocolate type.

My Mum is a warm, gentle and polite person and didn't deserve that at all. We definitely won't be stepping foot in...

**UPDATE 24TH April 2024

So, 12 months since our last visit, an extra friend came along too, and oh my, what a splendid breakfast we had.

2 Breakfast Platters 1 Steak & Sausage breakfast. Beautifully cooked, wonderfully presented, piping hot!! The standards of food and service are still top notch, well done to you all. Hopefully be back quicker next time, thank you very much. Neil.

My friend and I arrived Thursday morning for 09:30, parked up with plenty of spaces. We didn't make a reservation, just walked in. Nice touch was we could sit where we wanted. Good scan of the menu reveals plenty of drink and food options. To begin with, we ordered a Latte and my friend ordered a Steak and Sausage Breakfast with orange juice, 2 slices toast, butter and marmalade.

I had the Breakfast Platter, minus black pudding, added a fried egg instead. You can adapt your breakfast contents. Also brown toast, butter and red jam with orange juice.

We had both breakfasts arrive promptly, everything was beautifully presented and was importantly piping hot. We were both very impressed and stuffed upon finishing this feast. Service was spot on and I promised a 5 Star rating, so as promised. I'd highly recommend Lord's Cafe Bar, even if you are passing through or about to start a day in Southport. Simply delicious and good value. Many thanks...

Had the starter breakfast here with my fiancée. My breakfast was really good, however my fiancée's was cold apart from the egg. We mentioned this when someone came over and they brought back the wrong thing heated up so we said it was fine as we had no time because we were heading for the train. When my fiancée cut into the egg, she discovered that the bottom of it was covered in egg shell. She then noticed, which I hadn't, that we hadn't had our fresh orange juice. I went up to pay and fed this information back to the girl on the till. She said she would get someone over. An old man came over and in a very confrontational tone said " what's wrong. I then repeated what I had told the girl. I said I was happy to pay for my meal but felt that a discount on my partner's meal was appropriate as we hadn't received our drinks, even though we were charged for them as well as the situation with the egg shell and cold food. He then said get out and don't come back. The staff behind him looked shocked and were apologetic to me but he repeated get out and don't come back. The man who was serving us originally apologised again and shrugged his shoulders in disbelief. We left totally perplexed. We definitely will never be back. If he was the owner he definitely does not understand...

We popped in for an impromptu brunch with my mum. My hubby wanted a cooked breakfast and I didn’t know what I felt like. The available cooked breakfast option was a large portion. Since that was the only option, it was what he chose. It was lovely, but a bit more than he really wanted. Trying to be helpful, I trued a few parts of the breakfast and can say that the mushrooms could have done with a tad more cooking time. I was in need of coffee, and a latte later, I felt better. The coffee was excellent. I chose a tuna melt sandwich, which was tasty enough, although the cheese could have been more liberally applied to provide the required ‘melt’, it was a bit cold in the middle, and the salad side—more of a garnish—was exceptionally wilted and could have had a few more onions. There were quite a few more on my mum’s, invoking a bit of plate envy, as we had ordered the same. (Note my photo, shows half the sandwich. I always forget to take a picture before I’ve had a bite, and I am holding the other half.) The service was very good indeed. Lots of staff available to attend to our needs and service with a smile and a little chat. This is a friendly place, with a good atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, the food is pretty good, despite my niggles, and it was all worth it for the coffee.

I read a book over the weekend, a particularly poignant manual which dealt with a number of issues that interest me these days. One of which was our need for social interaction ("we are" as this author reminds us, "all social animals who need to interact with other members of our species") to (obviously) keep our mental health properly balanced and fully healthy. So I took my inner chimp (Dr Peters uses the chimp metaphor to describe our mischievous inner voice) to see some old friends up at Lord's Bar in Southport, where Alistair introduced me to a delicious hot duck wrap (and it was exactly what the Doctor ordered). So I've decided to follow Dr Peters' advice now, and I'm determined to get out more and become the social animal I always wanted to be. Don't be surprised if I turn up at your door looking for a lunch partner 😉 The first step towards better mental health is always the hardest, the second, involves finding a great menu, and Lord's Cafe Bar has a real beauty. Might head up towards the beach if the weather stays dry 👍. Try the Full Breakfast, it's officially now known as the BEST IN SOUTHPORT. #DELICIOUS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+
