We often call in here when in Southport - or did, never again! We went in about 7:30 pm last Thursday. Saw there was a pub quiz and decided to enter along with another couple we met, after checking with locals that this was ok. Some tables in the main room had notices saying 'reserved for quiz teams' so we avoided these assuming they were for regular teams, correctly, and sat at a table with no reserved sign. A member of staff came round handing out quiz sheets. We asked for one but were ignored. The landlady then came in and said we had to move into another room, even though the room was half empty. When we pointed out that we had been there for 2 hours she became extremely rude, said 'what do you not understand about 'move' '. When asked why she said 'just do it or leave' . My husband and I are 70 and 68 respectively, not troublemakers in any way. Her attitude was disgusting. A regular sat at the next table who we had been chatting to said 'not again! She is not known for her tact', but this was not just tactless, this was downright rude! We would have happily moved if there was a good reason to do so and if we had been asked politely. Good manners...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEasily the finest Pub in Southport. As A great selection of ever changing guest Real Ales alongside the resident choice . A real old Pub run as a Pub should be with no Music one large screen tv in front lounge, not intrusive and only used for important events, usually of a Sporting nature, with the volume kept to a very reasonable level. Bar staff I find to be knowledgeable of the products they sell but, as we all know, nobody can know everything.
Serves a selection of pub food lunchtime only till 2.30 and at very reasonable prices. . I have been using the Guest House on a regular basis since the mid Sixties in which time I have witnessed a few changes, but all in all the Pub as not changed a great deal . With a Beer Garden to the rear which, in the Summer months can become a sun trap, I cannot recommend this Public House highly enough. A must visit whether a resident of or visitor...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBrilliant little pub hidden away from the main drag in Southport. If you like old school traditional pubs this is the place for you. Food is served but not obvious from the signage outside. We had pie and vegetables and it was extremely tasty and excellent value for money. There were a couple of rooms, presumably a snug and tap room, both with fires which were very inviting on a chilly day. There were very few people in but staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this place for somewhere for food and drink when shopping in town if you...
