Me and the hubby were craving some decent fish and chips during our trip to Southport and we were definitely impressed with The Dolphin.
First impressions was that it looked like a proper retro café; which definitely ticks my nostalgia box! The lady who served us was lovely; she sat us down by the window on a bigger table even though I was prepared to sit on a smaller one as it was busy. Being hungry, we both ordered the large fish and chips; with the choice of cod or haddock... you could imagine my shock when it was brought out on an oven tray given how big it was! For £13.50 with mushy peas, curry sauce and buttered bread it was an absolute bargain price. As for the taste, it honestly was the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. The haddock was perfectly cooked, the chips were fluffy with a crispy coating and the mushy peas didn't need vinegar to enhance their flavour.
We've tried a fair few fish and chips establishments in Southport but safe to say this will be the one we will come back...
Read moreWe found this fish and chips restaurant by following the street boards off the main street. The restaurant owner and staff were very friendly, made us welcome They recommended the haddock, as it had just come in fresh from Scotland. Big flakes of fish well but not over battered. The chips were maris piper, crisp and soft in the centre, one of the best choice potatoes. Served with a choice of mushy peas, salad, and Chinese style curry sauce. A good portion size. Just under £12 per head with choice of tea and coffee. We had a pot of tea each. Pensioners offers, children's offers were on as well, plenty of choice on menue. All went down well, and there was no indigestion to follow. Many thanks to the Dolphin Restaurant, We had a most enjoyable meal, at the end thanked the Owner and staff for the meal and service they gave us. We also thanked them for putting the direction boards up for us to follow off the main street. "Well...
Read moreCould not fault this place. We have been going for years and used to go when we had our dog. The restaurant is do friendly and food is always spot on. We recently paid a visit on the 18th May 2025 and we're not disappointed but plesently surprised to find it now under new ownership. We had our usual fish and Chips. We at the seaside it's the order of the day. Whilst enjoying we got talking to a lovely man who turned out to be the new owner. Loris who was originally from Cyprus and used to have a chippy in Warrington but commuting back and forth from Southport was not the best option so when the Dolphin came on the market it was a no brainer. The fish was a good size and batter was crisp and not to thick. Chips crisp on outside and nice and fluffy on inside. If your in Southport it's a must and within walking distance of the park. So get your food and go and enjoy in park and take in...
