Lovely seeing our waitress Ruth who has served us many a time before but that's about where the good things stop. When we were ordering the food we were warned there were no flatbread for starters and no broccoli on the sides. We proceeded to order accordingly so we wouldn't be missing items off our meals, we have ordered a 12oz fillet steak that was meant to come with cheddar and onion brioche bread, a 16oz t-bone steak which was meant to come with the brioche bread, and 2 lots of the beer battered haddock. The meals came out and the haddock and chips wasn't too bad, however the t-bone steak was stone cold and there was no brioche bread with either of the steaks. When the t-bone steak was sent back due to the coldness of it, it came back and had the texture of boot leather and had seemingly been microwaved. If we knew there was no brioche bread we wouldn't have ordered the steaks as they were expensive for what had actually come out. When we asked to speak to the duty manager we were told he would only be a few minutes as he was working the door which is reasonable but we noticed him walking about the restaurant, one of us had to approach him to be able to speak to him. He took the t-bone steak off the bill and apologised over the lack of information over the brioche bread which we think was unacceptable as we had essentially been served what was on the basic part of the steak menu and been charged for the special steaks. One of us even went home hungry because of the state of the t-bone steak and it had put us off ordering anything else. Don't think we will be returning as this is the second visit here that has consecutively been terrible. (Other visit...
Read moreI want to start this review by saying I couldn't recommend this place more. Lovely service and very nice decor and feel to the place. The food was delicious, the staff were the friendliest and so professional!!
We originally both ordered the chicken burger, unfortunately it came out quite black and burned although the chicken inside was cooked perfectly. I brought this to the attention of our server and they returned it to the kitchen. 5 mins or so later the floor manager came over to inform us that the chicken burgers had been prepped incorrectly and to share his deepest apologies that they could no longer serve us chicken burgers.
Instead we opted to substitute our order with the beef burgers, not much time later we were served with two very delicious double beef burgers, fries and coleslaw. All perfection and very tasty! The sauces are their very own brand and they taste spectacular.
Upon paying the bill the floor manager informed me he had knocked the price of a burger off to apologies for the delay in service andbeing unable to provide the chicken burgers. I had to decline and ask that he add it back on as a tip, I couldn't in right mind take a discount for that level of service and quality of food.
This is the level of service restaurants aspire to, we'll definitely be back again, and hopefully next time we can have the chicken burgers, I bet they're delicious!
Lastly, the speed of service is fantastic, from walking in the front door, all of the above happening and then leaving to catch our cinema film, we were only there for about 70 minutes max!
Thank you Packet Steamer staff,...
Read moreFirstly used to come to packet steamer a lot with mum and dad before they both became ill also with other members of family quite often too and really enjoyed everything about it. This visit, wife was very hungry so decided to call in and we went in and were greeted and taken to a table for two. We both had to wipe away food of the seats before driving down and noticed bits of food on the sticky table obviously from previous diners. The menus we were given were filthy, full of greasy hand marks and food marks. Ordered drinks first then food. Wife ordered chicken salad with croutons which when it came was three strips of breaded chicken on a bed of lettuce. The croutons were cut up pieces of doughy bread which had been toasted or fried and made the whole meal horrible so she just reluctantly ate the chicken. We then finished our drinks to find my glass was full of lipstick clearly from whoever used the glass before me. We then just wanted to go so we asked for the bill and complained to staff who I must say were nice about it and very apologetic agreeing with us that the meal my wife had wasn't as described in the menue. They decided not to charge us for the wife's meal and drink in the end. Staff were ok as usual but the eating experience this time wasn't at all. Come on beefeater you can do better than this. The place needs a good clean, menus, floors, chairs, tables etc. Bad experience overall which is a shame and won't be returning to the packet steamer in the...
