We've been to the Butcher & Catch and The Chop Shop restaurants quite a few times and it's always been exceptional both food and experience. Visited the vendor at Cutlery Works for the first time this week.
I had the Fish and chips, which was really nice; the minted peas are a great addition. Husband had the crab roll, he said there wasn't much crab meat but was okay. The chips were seasoned very heavily which gets a bit too much by the end of the meal. One bug bear of my husband's was that there was no sauce on the counter other than vinegar.
I think there is a lot to be said about cutting wait/front of house staff and the chef "serving" customers. The food was placed on top of the warming oven and there was a staff member in front of the till, who had just left as I approached. It wasn't obvious if I just walked down and took the plates off the warming area myself. I know its self service at Cutlery Works but most places serve them on a low table/unit near the till. I asked the Chef (who didn't raise a smile or give a thank you considering we'd just paid over £30) and abruptly said yes and walked off.
Now given the climate and how hard it is on independent businesses at the moment, making customers feel valued and actually being pleasant would improve customer's experience, which in turn results in repeat business. I understand the food business (and the current times) is stressful, but if you aren't able to show minimum pleasantries, it might be best to hire some front of house or wait staff, as it really put a dampener the experience on...

Compliments to the chef ... the last time I had sea food that amazing I was in Portugal about 6 years ago.
Everything was fresh ! The oysters were exquisite and with 3 ways to choose from, the Battered oysters were a joyful experience.
The Scottish muscles starter, so generous is the portion there was enough for two. A big cob of sourdough bread was plentiful to mop up the amazing sauce after devouring the fresh tasting muscles.
And then the main...
My wife had the duck which was out of this world a generous portion and everything on the plate accompanied one another perfectly.
And the seafood linguine ... out of this world, I had to go Portugal to taste anything so sensational and 6 years on I have finally found somewhere that smashed it completely. The restaurant is a lovely modern vibe with floral decor and a sun lit window view to enjoy I was definitely taken back to a place like Portugal.
The service was polite and friendly and the selection of drinks was acceptional, i would personally recommend the passion fruit punch or if you are driving the elderflower fizz is a refreshing treat.
For a date night for two coming in at just over £80.00 for what we had i think is well worth it and we will come back again...
Read moreCan honestly say this is without a doubt one of the BEST restaurants in Sheffield! Not only is the menu full of choice to suit anyone but it's locally sourced and you can definitely tell through the taste of the meat and seafood. I highly recommend the oysters (prepared in a wide variety of methods....all of which I tried and can honestly say they were amazing and more importantly FRESH! Now you can honestly tell the difference between fresh and frozen rubbish some restaurants serve Main I recommend the Belly Pork with scallops. Cooked beautifully! The scallops soft and full of flavour....the pork crispy and salty from the fat and the pork was tender and juicy! Both washed down with a beautiful drink...Heathen from Abbeydale Brewery. The staff - nothing short of helpful with their recommendation and boy were they right! The chef had prepared the meals beautifully! My only reservation is I wish I had enough stomach to try all the other items on the menu which sounded absolutely scrumptious! Oh and the wings.....wow were they spicy! Nonetheless juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside! I definitely highly recommend this place and a must to try...
