MA-ba — Restaurant in Sheffield

I tried out Ma-ba for the first time on Saturday and I was quite impressed actually! The food arrived well within the stated time and the taste was just lovely. I had the masala chips, chickpea curry with rice and popadom with a pickle tray. The masala chips were very generous in potion and well seasoned, they were very enjoyable. The curry was very flavoursome and reminiscent of the authentic flavours i grew up with. The spice levels were a bit lacking for me personally but it still had a good level of overall flavour. The portions were decent sized too. The only downside is that my popadoms were missing so I can’t say if they were good or not, but I did get a refund for that which was surprising and appreciated. Really really disappointed! Had a takeaway from here and it said gluten free next to the items on Uber Eats. I tried to ring to make sure they were completely gluten free because the starter looked fried. They didn't answer.. They put a note in my order to say they were fried in the same fryer! It was a bit late to send a written note. They could have simply called me back to inform me and maybe swap out the poppadoms and starter for something I could actually eat. I've eaten here many times and presumed it's suitable for coeliacs but obviously not. Given the reviews, I decided to pay 5.50 for a pani puri in the hopes that it would at least be acceptable. Yet, to be absolutely honest, the flavour had nothing at all in common with pani puri. I've eaten a lot of pani puris, but this so called pani puri is the worst I've ever had. I asked where the sweet chutney or meethi pan was, the lady said that they mix it all together. That didn't taste anything like an Indian pani puri in the least. Don't try to trick people into thinking this is the taste of the delicious pani puri by using this flavour.
