We had our wedding ceremony at Kelham Island Museum on April 22 (reception held elsewhere). We absolutely loved the venue, and our guests did too. It was great having the whole museum to ourselves and that the guests could explore whilst we were having some photographs taken after the ceremony. The venue made for some amazing and different photos. Handy to have parking on site and the pub there for guests to get drinks. It was a shame we weren't allowed in to decorate the venue ourselves the night before.
Communication from venue staff ahead of the day could have been better. There were several basic bits of information we had to ask about instead of just being told, which left us worrying that we needed to know what to ask - which you don't when you've never been married before! An FAQ would've been useful. We had specifically asked if there were any decorations that weren't allowed and been told no, so we planned to have balloons. We then found out the day before our wedding that balloons were not allowed so we had to change our plans. We also felt staff could have directed us/our guests more on the day, for example there was a wedding next door at The Chimney House which we hadn't been made aware of so guests who didn't know the venue were not sure where to go when they arrived, and after the confetti photos we/guests weren't sure where to go next for the drinks we'd ordered and had to ask instead of being directed.
Overall we absolutely loved getting married there, it's a unique place to get married and we appreciate that weddings are a very small part of what they do and we felt the price for hire was reasonable. Thanks...

More seriously though, the owner, Sheffield Museums Trust, have hired Minster Baywatch to dish out the fines and they are 100% fraudsters. It's a £100 fine, 'reduced' to £60 when paid within "14 days of this letter". You might be tempted to think that they mean within 14 days of receipt or date of the letter but of course the letter isn't dated. Dunster Baywatch wait until the legally required 14 days have passed before sending you their fraudulent claim on your bank account. Upon investigation the day after I received the letter, I went on to their website and found that the so-called "discount" was non-existent and not offered.
This car park has been free for the whole of the 18 years I've lived in Sheffield and the situation has only changed since they turned Kelham Island into a gated community for wealthy incomers and foreign investor landlords, who don't want to be troubled by the poverty stricken locals of course. Thanks Sheffield City Council!
Avoid the car park and brewery until Dunster Baywatch have had their contract cancelled, been prosecuted and an apology has been issued by the Museum Trust....

While Kelham Island Museum is a fantastic museum and offers a great day out with other attractions nearby, be warned: Sheffield Museum Trust has contracted the car park management out to Minster Baywatch Ltd. Check out their reviews – they're quite something! The car park closes promptly at 4:00 PM, and the gate is locked shut. So, if like us, after visiting the museum you fancy a bite to eat from the onsite caterers or a pint from the pub, be aware your car will be locked in (see attached picture). If I missed the signage stating the gate locks at 4:00 PM, that's my fault, but it's either not there or a very small sign. Fortunately, the management at the pub had a key to unlock the gate and we got out, but we were informed this happens very often! Some three weeks later, a fine for an 'overstay' dropped through the letterbox from Minster Baywatch – £100, reduced to £60 if paid promptly. That's a separate argument entirely. This is just a heads-up: do not get caught out. Move your car before 4:00 PM if you want to continue enjoying your day without a surprise fine or a...
