We absolutely loved the museum. It was our first time there and it was such a surprise to get a free Year ticket as a gift.

Our experience was fantastic from the start as the staff are very professional and welcoming. We received a map where it said what the museum has on each floor.

There are lots of interactive things to do. A lot of interesting information to take in. We really liked the outside but with the fire engines from different years and makes. On the upper floor where different rescue services are described had a lovely song with a little cartoon about safety when in water. My daughter and I are still singing it.

The only bit that we didn’t see was about the war. Which is, of course, a very important part of the exhibition and history. It’s because our family had to flee Ukraine when Russian invasion started in February 2022. We both found the sound of air alert distressing. But it’s our personal experience.

We highly recommend that you visit the museum. It’s a great place to be on a day like yesterday especially as it was raining a lot. Very good for all the...

A lovely day out with the kids! On a Saturday there are rides in a real fire engine round the block for £2 which we really enjoyed. Some beautifully restored fire engines, police cars and ambulances giving a real sense of how the services have evolved over the last few hundred years. Just wonderful to walk around and admire and a great selection that the kids can hop on and explore. Don't miss the outside area with a large selection of further vehicles including a huge RNLI boat! I felt some of the exhibits needed labels so I knew what I was looking at - many cases had no labelling at all and this would really add to the experience as I wanted to appreciate the items I was seeing. Take a packed lunch or eat lunch before you go as the small coffee shop is just that - a coffee shop with a selection of crisps, snack bars and hot drinks. They now serve teacakes and toast which is welcome, but you can't get your lunch here. Didn't bother us as we came after lunch and had a lovely time, stopping for a tea and biscuit mid-visit! A wonderful day out...

Bought my two year old and 4 month old here today and they loved it, we really enjoyed seeing all the ‘ne-naws’ on display - old and new fire engines, ambulances and police cars. We also had a brilliant time on the fire engine ride, a very memorable experience. A star has been knocked off however by the rude two young female volunteers for the fire engine ride (one with ginger hair and one with black hair) that are in dire need of a lesson in customer service - slammed the gate on my toddler twice without explaining why he couldnt go on yet, scowled at me when i questioned them about it while the other one mumbled something inaudible...just seemed un-bothered. We can understand only so many people can fit on but we didnt know that as we have never been here before and with a toddler waiting patiently we could of really done with a quick explantion beforehand. The gentleman at the front desk and the lady in the cafe however were both very friendly and welcoming, really made an effort to make us feel welcome. Other than that it was a very fun...

Been past many times now had chance to go in (19.10.24).Highly recommended. Lots of vehicles, exhibits, historic rooms covering all of our respected emergency services. They even have a lifeboat out back but at the moment you can't go on it. Lift gives access to other floors if needed. Cafe and small shop attached, but didn't go in the cafe. Cost £9.50 on day of visit adult w/out concession, tickets valid for re-entry for 1 year - keep receipt and slip they give you (think you may need to sign off on gift aid for this). Didn't spend long enough in here .... minimum time I reckon you need 2 hours ideally 4 hours to give everything a good once over. Note - nearest real ale pubs are The Shakespeare and 2-6 micropub, both excellent and a few minutes walk in opposite directions (the pubs that is).

What a brilliant place! Sheffield, at the turn of the last century built itself a state of the art combined emergency services centre. Now it's a museum but you can experience the feeling of a cell in an actual cell, examine horse drawn appliances in the coach house next to the stables, trace the development of fire appliances through the ages and more and more and more... With excellent immersive interpretation aimed at all levels it's an utterly absorbing couple of hours. Encompassing everything from blitz boyscout fire wardens to the development of the RNLI, I guarantee you'll run out of capacity for more emergency services knowledge long before the museum runs out of interesting things to tell you. Don't worry though, they'll commute your ticket into an annual pass if you like.
