We have been returning customers at TGI for years but after the service received yesterday we will not be returning. Whilst the experience was negative as a whole, the young waitress who served us was lovely and incredibly apologetic despite her not being at all at fault. We’d made a booking to celebrate two birthdays and at first we were happy to see balloons and receive a card from the team. We ordered drinks, and then soon after ordered food, which took over an hour and a half to arrive. Upon entry, we were told that steak was not available due to some issues in the kitchen, but everything else was. However, when ordering the food somebody tried to order a burger and we were told that burgers were not available even though this was not initially stated. When bringing our food across, one of the waiters said that one of the meals would take a little longer to arrive because it had to be reheated. After waiting over an hour for food, it felt like a kick in the teeth to be basically told that it was microwaved. When the meal (creamy cajun chicken pasta) arrived, it was disgusting. The person who’s meal it was has never once returned or even complained about food, but could not eat the pasta and had to send it away because it was oily and greasy after the sauce had separated in the microwave, with the pasta being hot and the chicken on top being freezing cold. Apart from one person, nobody in our party enjoyed or liked the food, which was extremely poor in quality especially with the prices paid. We asked for the bill, and when we received it it was £248 with a 10% discount due to our complaint AND the pasta being removed from the bill. We then asked if we could use a blue light card discount (20%) to which they said yes, but not alongside the 10%. We understood and had anticipated this, so weren’t bothered. We did also ask for the service charge to be removed too as we were very unhappy with the experience. The audacity to even add a service charge in the first place after we’d had to complain about the food and return it was shocking. One thing that did bother us was the male waiter who was incredibly rude. He brought back the updated bill, which had supposedly had a 20% discount rather than 10%, with only £4 removed from the total, which was now £244. We immediately noticed that he had not added the 20% discount we’d asked for. Without the service charge and with the 20%, our food should have been £195. However, we were so fed up that we ended up paying anyway, as when we did complain to the waiter his only response was “Well it needs paying”. It was absolutely disgraceful. We did tip the young waitress who had tended to us for most of the experience because she was lovely, but could not say the same for anything else. As said previously, we will not be...
Read more2 stars is for the food which was OK apart from cold fries but when you are paying £100 for a meal for three people I expected better service! My husband and I always go to TGI on birthdays just not the Meadowhall branch. We wanted to take our daughter for the first time on her 16th birthday. When we arrived we told our waitress secretly that it was our daughters birthday so she could receive the usual fuss the staff make only to be told they don't do that anymore. Well the other branch did it back in September. Our waitress assured me that even though they didn't sing they would still make a fuss of our daughter and even throw in a free dessert. She then showed us to a booth that hadn't yet been cleaned and when we finally did sit down the whole back wobbled so everytime the guy sat behind me moved the whole seat shook. We asked to move but were told there was no other table free. She took our order but didn't say anything to my daughter about it being her birthday. We ordered the refill cokes and were totally ripped off. We had to get up to ask for a refill the first time and once that was gone we sat with an empty glass for 15 mins, couldn't be bothered to get up again. It's supposed to be table service! The other branch keep you topped up constantly. Our starter plates were not cleared away which was awkward when the mains turned up. The main plates were not cleared away and not only did my daughter not receive her free dessert we weren't even asked if we wanted to order desserts. In the end we got fed up of waiting and flagged our waitress down for the bill. After a further 20 mins we got up and went and paid at the till. The service was a joke! I wanted to complain at the time but didn't want to make a scene on my daughters birthday. I've sent a feedback form to TGI's asking to be contacted and after a week have heard nothing! It absolutely went through me paying that bill and put a cloud over the evening for me. I was expecting my daughter to be made to feel special but the staff didn't give a toss. We'd have had a better time at the local pub for a third of the price. Can't speak for all TGI restaurants but I'd certainly advise to avoid the Meadowhall branch! We only went there as we were shopping. Wish we'd gone to our usual branch. If the staff are going to act so different maybe the price should be lowered in that branch...
Read moreJust to bare in mind I have been in TGIF before and experience have been good and even recommended it to friends. But this was shocking. Myself and 3 of my friends have went for a catch up on Thursday. It has all started very nice. Service been lovely. Cannot complain about beers and ciders we had. Food was just fine. Done well but nothing special. One person have not been eating as she came for company. She has ordered mud slide. She has tried and it was not satisfactory as even though it has been an alcoholic milkshake there was no alcohol felt in there. When asked waitress she said there is only quarter of a shot in there! With a price of £10 I believe, quarter of a shot of alcohol definitely is not enough. She had it exchanged to honey kissed which turned out to be worse than mud slide. After complaint has been made the whole service towards us has changed. It was not as friendly and we were kind of avoided. We have ordered cocktails to finish the evening off but it has been same issue as with milkshake. Long Island Iced tea had been too sweet, very sickly sweet but no alcohol taste, Sweetheart - there was more mint in there than any liquid and Irish coffee where you could even barely taste coffee not even talking about alcohol. When waitress (Nicky) came back asking whether everything is okay with the drinks I have gave my honest opinion about them being sooo light to which she has responded 'It will hit you later'. I can reassure you it did not hit me at all... She has asked whether we want to order anything else. As we have said no she already had a bill in her other hand ready to be put down on table! I have never seen that in any restaurant where waitress carries the bill for the table with her. Found it quite rude to be honest. After we said we do not wish to leave a tip (did not say it was due to service we have received), Nicky became very dismissive and unwilling said thank you and bye. Very poor customer service. Gave 2 stars as food was okay, the rest was definitely below the standards. I would definitely not recommend it. Maybe go to other branches but definitely...
