Came here to have some food and drink back in Nov as it was my friend’s birthday but only because our other plans fell through. This venue was definitely not somewhere we would've chose to have a nice meal or drink at all. However this was the only place in town where it wasn't relatively too too busy and where we would've been able to have a chance to order food walking in or else we would've had to have gone somewhere further which I did not want to create further hassle for my mate since it was her birthday.
For starters, we came here on a Saturday evening which was fairly busy and full of pub-goers queuing by the tills to buy a pint or whatever the like. The only seating available was upstairs so we went up to find somewhere to sit and eat our food/have our drinks. Absolutely shambolic. Tables were still left a mess from hours prior, missing chairs in certain tables, glasses on tables, and some were even wet - basically the whole upstairs looked like a tornado rocked the room. As I said fair enough that it's a busy Saturday cos as someone in industry I get it, but the standards are absolutely unacceptable. I politely asked a staff member if they could please tidy up the upstairs so that we could have somewhere clean to eat and drink but they gave me a ‘moody teenager’ type of response instead of apologising for the busy day, like I was an inconvenience for them. Staff here are rude and look like they don't want to be there. Even when they're handing food and drinks there's a bit of attitude. My friend who was the birthday girl did not mind but it ruined my night because I wanted to make it special for her, especially after previous plans fell through and was looking to make the best out of this already bitter night.
With already very bad impressions of the venue, we then order drinks and foods via the QR code on our table. Drinks felt very watered down but you're honestly getting what you get with that pricepoint.
Food options were lacklustre and plain. I get that this is a quintessential English pub and prices are fairly cheap but they should do better as a pub in the city centre. The portions are also insanely massive. Ironically my male friend was the only person who finished his plate.
Yates should stick to being a sports bar and ditch the food, maybe only have small plates and a few pub classics. Food is definitely not their forte.I will never come in again, not even if someone wanted...
Read moreI would just like to give Yates some major praise for the wonderful job they did with our wedding reception. Although we were a bit nervous at first because this was the pub’s first wedding, they bent over backward to make sure that everything was perfect and my partner and I couldn’t be more thankful. Most of the initial meetings were between myself and the manager, as my partner was out of the country. The manager, Jamie, was eager to help and always had ideas to input to make the day extra special, I had many one on one meetings with him and where nessisary the chef to plan all the details for our day and plan logistics. When we were decorating, we were able to transform the entire upper floor into a wedding reception venue that truly looked lovely. Although we had a lot of help from our family, the Yates team also made sure to help with the decorating and put the finishing touches on the space overnight. On the day, they created an awesome balloon arch and decorated the space with balloons and extra table decorations. They also took care to address all of the remaining decorative tasks before we arrived. During the reception there was complimentary champagne for guests provided and my partner and I were able to do a bit of behind-the-bar cocktail making, which was an added bonus. The food deserves a paragraph of its own because WOW did it impress us. We were able to create our own menu from giving Yates our food preferences and they then created a list of many options and from that we decided to go with tomato and basil bruschetta, lamb shank with roast vegetables, and lemon meringue pie. All courses were heavenly and presented with class – perfect for a wedding meal. We were equally impressed with the quality of the evening buffet, which our guests loved. To top it all off, the staff was incredibly attentive to our party and checked in frequently to make sure everything was running smoothly. Jamie even announced our first dance when we asked – he’s just that kind of person who wants to provide a quality experience. The team dedicated to our party (a team of 3) were phenomenal and many of our guests commented on how well-executed the reception was, especially for a first-time venture. If you are looking for a very reasonably priced venue for your reception or party and want great food and awesome staff, I highly recommend Yates! My partner and I are so thankful to you for making our special...
Read moreWe chose this pub as it looked clean and inviting and had plenty of free tables. After our experience we now know why the two nearby Wetherspoons were so full. We ordered the food which in itself took a while. After half an hour of waiting for our meals we asked how much longer the food would be and were told a further 5 to 10 minutes. We waited another 20 minutes but two of us had to leave soon as we had a show to watch so we asked how long. We were again advised it would be another 5 to 10 minutes. The staff didn’t seem too concerned. We decided to ask for a refund for two of the meals as we needed to leave. The girl didn’t quibble and gave a refund although I had to query that as it didn’t add up to the amount of the two meals being refunded. We went back to the table and as me & my daughter were putting our coats on to leave the waitress bought our two meals to the table. She said it would have been thrown away so we may as well have it. The rest of the meals followed. My daughter rushed her jacket potato which was small and hardly any topping. I took my burger with me but when I have checked the menu today to compare, it wasn’t the burger I ordered at all! The all day breakfast my husband had was burnt and had a sausage and tomato missing, it was dry and unappetising. My grandchildren had a meal and the mash was cold and hard. My son in laws dinner was tepid. It was a total disaster. The waitress said the delay was due to the Christmas market but I’m sure it is the same every year so surely they should be prepared. We should have asked for the rest of the meals to be refunded. It did get busier in there but not many seemed to be ordering food and now we know why. We will never use this bar again. I hate giving bad reviews but on this occasion it is justified. On a positive note the waitressing staff were...
