So far, so homophobic. Despite advertisements of mon-fri for our original room (a small one cos we wanted an intimate event) we had to upgrade to a larger (aka more expensive room) because they ‘don’t do mondays in that room during that time of the year’ that information was no where on the website (even now that information isn’t available). We then received our information about bands etc (all written for husband/wife despite legalisation happening over 10 years ago) doesn’t make you feel very special and excited about ‘the most important day of your life’. Then our notice of marriage was cancelled (and by ‘cancelled’ we received two identical emails with different dates, no where in the second email did it state the original date had been cancelled, nor did we receive a response back when emailing to inform them we had a date already and we’d paid the required amount etc). Fast forward to today where we were supposed to go for our notice (again a super exciting milestone in your run up to the big day) ending with my future wife in tears, feeling like everything we’ve done so far towards our big day that has involved the sheffield city service and town hall has been against us. Even if we move the main ceremony to somewhere else the fact we have to use them for our ‘official’ paperwork aswell is bringing up feelings of dread. Imagine someone asking you if you’re looking forward to getting married and you smile on the outside and say yes, while internally wondering what else Sheffield city council and the venue are going to do to ruin...

Read moreThis review is in regards to wedding ceremonies taking place at Sheffield Town Hall.
It's a stunning building, and the grand staircase maybe one of the prettiest spaces in all of Sheffield. However, the downstairs rooms available for marriages are on the "office-y" side and really don't hold up to the glory of the rest of the building. They are desperate need of an update.
However, there are plenty of other perks to having a town hall and the area and the staff are lovely. If you're having your wedding reception in Sheffield, it can be a really convenient location. Being able to use the winter gardens next door for family pictures is also...
