I think I went to a different place to a lot of these reviewers! We were shown to a table and it dawned on us after a few minutes we were going to be the table to be ignored. After a while of lots of staff walking passed us back and forth we asked one for a menu. They were slapped down on the table without a word or a smile. Then nobody came to take our order so again we had to grab a passing staff member. When the drinks and food arrived ( again dumped on the table without any comment or smile) we had 4 dirty glasses for the water, no sugar for the coffee and one tiny pot of milk to go between a tea and coffee. After being ignored a bit longer we asked another staff member if we could have some clean glasses, sugar and milk, plus part of our order (scones) was missing. A while later we got the glasses sugar and milk but no scones. My husband gave up after another few minutes and went up to the desk to find a scone sat there. We presumed it was ours. Strangely though when we asked for the bill they were over like a shot! No collection of details for track and trace either! It was one example of poor service after another and such hard work just to get some drinks and a cake/ scone! It does not cost anything to smile, the staff need a bit of training in customer service. Our Teenage daughter is a waitress and she couldn’t believe the terrible service we had either. Having said that the coffee and...

I had a negative experience which meant I left before I received my food, so this review should not reflect upon the food quality. I went in at 7.10am as there were several smaller tables available in the 'outside' area, suitable for a person on their own. The inside is too dark for me to be able to read without my glasses. Unfortunately, the wait at the counter to place my order was long due to the ordering and hot drinks production being done as one task by a single team member. By the time I had ordered, many more people had arrived who had 'reserved' the smaller tables before joining the queue behind me to order. My only option was to sit at a long bench table which was mainly occupied by a group of men. Their topics of discussion and language were not what I wanted to listen to. The other bench table had other individual diners spaced out such that I would have to have sat immediately next to, or immediately opposite a stranger, which I am not comfortable doing. I chose to leave. I haven't given a really bad rating because that would be unfair. I am sure that if you are with someone or a group, this set up would work fine. However, for me as an introverted visitor to Dartmouth, I found the whole experience stressful - I simply don't want to feel under pressure to have to talk to someone I don't know, or be unable to avoid other people's...

A nice setting. Very small inside and staff are keen to have you sit outside. The food and drinks were nice, albeit a little on the expensive side. The experience was slightly ruined by the cold welcome. It’s basic politeness to smile and say hello when a customer enters your establishment. Instead, we received a firm face and a “yes…?!” I must say, it made us feel like we weren’t welcome. I could no more say that to a customer than fly. The young lady was polite. I got the feeling it was the owner that was the cold one. If correct, she should know better.

Stopped off for lunch whilst visiting Dartmouth. Two of us had coronation salad - highly recommended. One had steak & mushroom baguette and the other sauerkraut & sausage baguette which they said were good. Portions were generous and our salads were delicious. Whilst my cider and sil’s iced coffee were at the perfect temperature, the guys’ lager could have been cooler but it’s a minor point.
