Friendly staff and well organised but there was an incident where after having queued patiently for quite a while for the boat trip, a LOAD of people JUST suddenly jumped the queue. The staff did say something but were ignored. I suppose that can be a tricky situation. It was frustrating though as we had waited quite a while in the baking hot sun and then had to sit at the back of the boat in a tiny area because of all the queue jumpers. Still a lovely trip though. When we went to Kingsmear station to return I asked the ladies at the coffee bar on the station, if there was a bar on the station. She responded "oh goodness no!". She looked at me as if I was trying to score some class A drugs?! Bit odd! My husband just fancied a cold shandy on the rare, baking hot day where he didn't have to drive anywhere. Aside from that though we did have a good day. Our 2019 visit was better. But a bit unlucky this time. But in the main it is well worth it. Gorgeous steam trains, friendly staff (especially on the boats), nice mochas in the cafe! Beautiful scenery. I also thought my nice souvenir mugs from the station were great value. Sometimes gift shop prices are extortionate! We will do...
Read moreA pretty good day out on the steam railway. I was expecting just a little most nostalgia and I guess that it would have been a 5 star review had it been an ex-GWR locomotive that took us on our trip rather than one from the USA. This did not spoil our day out though as we still got to ride in some old carriages and hear the sound of the engine etc.
Both the station and the train staff were friendly and helpful and the tarin appears to be dog friendly. In addition, the gift shop is well stocked with trinkets and books etc, hence even that is worth a wander around.
Plenty of photo opportunities during the trip if that is your thing.
The inside of the train was clean and well maintained.
The trip iself was reasonable value for money as we had a combined ticket with the river cruise and ferry crossing. Just riding the railway appeared to cost nearly as much on its own so would not have been as...
Read moreWe took a Round Robbin Torquay tour (I have uploaded an image of the route we choose) of Dartmouth Steam Railway which starts with 30 mins. steam railway ride from Paignton to Kingswear and then you get a fairy from Kingswear to Dartmouth where you get enough time to visit the town, its shops and have a meal. On amazing day you can do fishing also, then from Dartmouth we took a cruise to Totnes which lasted over an hour touring River Dart. And after reaching Totnes there is a 100 number bus ride back to Paignton which I wasn't expecting to be that scenic and fun. All in all it is a fun filled amazing tour with scenic view and covers 3/4 towns and given it's a full day activity I really their prices too. I'll definitely recommend this for everyone and specially families.
I have attached few pictures I took along the way, hope you'll like...
