Having visited Gooch’s before to enjoy some tea and cake, we visited today to enjoy some of the sunshine. We ordered some drinks and a slice of cake. When the cake arrived, my mother tasted it and said it was dry, we very politely and quietly let the waitress know (we didn’t ask for a replacement or a refund at this point) The young waitress took it away and I assume the manager, a blonde lady, then came out to the table, in front of all of the other outdoor diners, and whilst sticking her fingers into the cake (repeatedly) reassured us that all of the cakes were freshly made in the morning and it simply couldn’t be dry. It was just very awkward and it got to the point where it felt liked she was arguing with us over whether or not the slice of cake was dry. I don’t know if we caught the manager on a bad day but it was borderline argumentative and really rude. It just seemed really unnecessary to cause such a scene over one slice of cake (we certainly didn’t when we returned it) We felt really uncomfortable and left shortly afterwards, there are much friendly spots in town like Frothys or Lamberts for tea and cake I’d recommend instead. It was my dads birthday and it just left such a downer on what had been...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend went as it looked the part with the decor and the cakes looked nice. I had ham egg and chips and a banana milkshake. The milkshake was good. But the portion of chips you got was shocking it was worse than a kids portion. The ham was sandwich ham wich was thin and you only got one slice and it was full of fat round the edge . And at £12 you expect more. My girlfriend had a chicken and sun dried tomato baguette which was flavourless. The chicken was very white and dry. The ramkin of salad was tasty but wasnt enough reflecting on the price at £13 for a baguette. I know stamford is a very known place for wealthy people ,but this place needs to charge less for the food they are serving. I won't be back as there is much better...
Read moreAte here on Friday for a birthday lunch. It was ok at best but ruined by what I can only assume was the owner sat on a table barking orders at the staff. “Bring me a pen and a pad, I’ll do it myself” amongst other orders. It made the whole time really uncomfortable. Food was ok, I had a Brie and bacon panini and the bacon was so greasy. Green herbs sprinkled all over the food (it’s a pet hate of mine so someone might appreciate this but personally I don’t get it!!). We asked for a parasol but the waiter never returned. I was served a Coke Zero that was flat and had melted ice in it so I can only assume it had be poured for some time. Overall just ok but I...
