My wife and I had Sunday lunch here today. We're new to Penwortham and had been recommended the Fleece as a nice pub. First impressions were that the building was quite tatty and in urgent need of a refurbishment. The window frames were peeling and cracking. Several window units had blown so you couldn't see out of them. The radiators were on full blast in spite of being a summer's day. It was oppressively hot inside, we guessed pushing 30 centigrade so decided to eat outside. The furniture outside was dirty tired and damaged like the interior. We ordered two duo Sunday lunches which included both turkey and beef. They arrived 30 minutes later served by a polite and helpful staff member. She said she'd just started. The menu said we'd get seasonal vegetables (plural) but only received two sprigs of broccoli. The meat was tasty as was the Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. However the roast potatoes were hard in the middle and the cauliflower cheese was also undercooked. The lunches were served on small plates and cost £13.49 each which are expensive for what we received. Other pub chains offer much better value. The toilets were also in poor condition and smelt. All in all we were disappointed with our experience. The waitress said she'd tell the manager but he didn't approach us to deal with our concerns. Greene King seriously need to do some quality checking because on our experience today, the pub needs a thorough refurb and the chef's quality needs close supervision. Disappointing...

I reviewed The Fleece two years ago which I have deleted as it wasn't a glowing report. However I felt after last night's visit I needed to change my review.

Went with the future hubby for a date night covid measures are in place and being done very well.

We had to check-in at our table and download the app to order. All very straight forward and simple.

I think the guy that seated us was called Jack (I'm rubbish at remembering names) he was very helpful and made sure that the changes we asked for to the meals we ordered made it to the kitchen.

When the food came everything was correct and all meals were pipping hot which was a huge bonus. This may sound like an obvious thing but we've had a few meals out recently where the food has come out and it's been lukewarm.

I had the low calorie lasgne which was very tasty, one of the nicest I've had in a while. The only things I'd comment in was that the menu said I'd came with a large dressed salad .. it was a small handful of lettuce leaves with a few slices of cucumber and a slice of tomato.

My partner had Hunters chicken and gammon egg and chips (he claims he's still a growing boy 🤣) he made some changes to his meals and was very happy when they came out almost spot on. Only thing missing was the coleslaw from his hunters chicken.

All in all huge improvement from my last visit staff were helpful and friendly, food was very good, and it was a lovely end to a...

I didn't recognise the place from the pictures, I had to check my timeline and Google maps to be sure its the correct place.

The food was barely ok, definitely not meeting standards that you would expect anywhere in the country. And the pint tasted of dirty lines, which again you don't expect on a Monday.

The staff, the male presenting one looked in a bad mood with everyone, the other two staff (flamboyant) were friendly and engaging, and their conversation and humour was the only saving grace)

Now the atmosphere, aside from the bar staff it was pretty bleak, paper peeling from all the walls dye to seriously bad damp and mold, in the bathroom there was human fecal matter on the wall as well as red and yellow snot crusted on, and the pipes were covered in furry black mold. There was an overpowering pungent smell from the glass washer (at 3pm) which needed a seriously good clean given i was here just after lunch on a Monday.

Having grown up in, managed and worked in more than 30 bars, there is no excuse for any of this.

For what we were charged i am appalled. And I waited 3 days to review so I could comment on how long I was stuck in my bathroom due to the food causing a brown flood, and it was only a day so only mild food poisoning to...

The food was great, nothing wrong with it at all, the new chef is a lot better than the old one, however we asked for a bit of extra gravy with our Sunday roast and had to pay for it when there was hardly any on the meal anyway. When we had finished our meal, our plates were not cleared away for 45 minutes until someone from our table moved them to an empty table, not to mention it wasn't busy at all, as well as this the staff that were on were not very attentive to the tables or proactive with glass collecting and were instead stood around the bar chatting to each other. It seems to me that the staff are getting payed to talk to each other and stand there doing nothing instead of doing what their supposed to do !! The toilets were dirty and need repainting. Where we were sat there were empty cigarette boxes on the floor and a dirty tissue on the windowsill. Not to mention the fact that this pub is more on the expensive side when personally it should be slightly less expensive. The place has been redone slightly but overall still needs work being done as it still feels a bit rundown.
