The Lounge — Restaurant in South Tyneside

Shame really, the place has some great potential truly! The interior is really well laid out and genuinely well thought through… however, thats where our good experiences came to an end. Getting served was a struggle, the gentleman (who was genuinely very polite) explained that they were busy and he was struggling to keep up, looking around less than 1/3 of the tables were seated and most had already been served food, it did make us question where the drama was… but anyway, we ordered jacket potatoes with 2 toppings and I challenged why on the bill we had been charged for a second topping, the young lady explained that only one topping was included (bit odd, not very well explained on the menu but ok) then when the food came out and was handed to us by the very same person who had taken the order AND been challenged on the price, there was only one topping on it anyway? The kitchen staff came out saying they couldn’t read the staff writing a lot of the time BUT they were quick to resolve the problem. Visited with my Brother and Aunt. The service was good and very prompt. A good selection of vegetarian food and reasonably priced. Fabulous selection of drinks. Staff on the whole were polite and efficient with only one exception who seemed a bit cold clipped and annoyed. The only let down was I spotted one of the bar staff/waitress hovering 3 times and as soon as we were finished plate snatched which made me feel uncomfortable, unwelcome and unwanted. I have been several times and have a different meal 🍴 all are lovely. I even had that vegetarian Wellington it was worth not having Meat. The staff are great, the place is comfortable and prices are good to, as is children's menu, I was happy that unlike a lot of places they could have milk instead of a sugary drink which is so much better.
