Up North Pizzeria & Deli — Restaurant in South Tyneside

Like others have mentioned bad experience with staff members being rude. It’s a shame as I’ve been here a few times - there have been a few mishaps like accidentally serving me a meat nduja pizza rather than the veggie one (so I would be careful if you are veggie / vegan and double check the order).

Another time they forgot to take our order for over an hour, eventually we ordered at the till and they were very apologetic - it was no problem as it was busy and these things happen.

However the man who served us tonight (tall, glasses) was so rude and passive aggressive it made for a very uncomfortable experience that has put me off ever going again. There was a miscommunication (my fault) and he was so nasty about it I actually ended up crying in the restaurant….I have honestly never had an experience like it and as it was near empty in there it just made it so awkward. The pizza and drinks were nice to be fair but this ruined the evening and experience for us.

I am not a confrontational person at all, however I did message management to let them know the experience ahead of writing the review, as I wanted to give them a chance to deal with it directly. From the response I think it may have been the manager himself who was our server, and it wasn’t handled well, so I don’t think any of our table of six would be back for...

By far the best pizza in south shields. Lovely place to eat in or out. Open kitchen so you can see what's going on. First time from using this gem of a place. We ordered a margherita and a spicy meat feast with two garlic dips. Fantastic dough with lovely charring on the edge of base, my daughter who is veggie said it is hands down the finest margherita she has ever had. My spicy meat feast was very good, the little drop peppers where a revelation they popped in my mouth and were so sweet to compliment the chilli base sauce along with the pepperoni & njuda. The one small gripe i had was that the jalapeños were the pickled variety, if they'd of been fresh it would of been perfect. Saying that it in no way detracted from the expirience. Summary i shall return again and sit iin next time. Please if you love pizza then this place is very very very good. This place and Gallo Nero do the best in the town as they both know that a quality base and quality ingredients make a taste sensation. Up north also cater for vegan's and alcohol....

I used to really enjoy coming here but the staff are so rude its just not worth it. I get working in hospitality can be trying at times (as someone who works in hospitality too!).

We decided to get a takeaway for this reason from here and they messed up the order - we drove back to the shop and politely explained it was incorrect, it's no big deal these things happen. But the way it was handled was so awkward, the man came over to explain to us in a condescending manner what the elements of the pizza were that we ordered as if we were just idiots who didn't get it, I wish I never bothered going back and everyone nearby was starting to look at this point whilst our other pizza got cold.

Eventually I located the the receipt showing we had indeed ordered a different pizza. He did not apologise and then tried to correct us on the dips (?!) it was so strange and we will not...
