Grumpy Monkey — Restaurant in Southampton

I am absolutely disgusted at the service I received yesterday. I booked a table for the final on 30th June (before I even knew England were going to be in the final) because I was so excited at the possibility they could be in the final for the first time in my life! I booked a table for 2 hours 6:30pm – 8:30pm and had even written in the booking notes that we wanted to stay for the football match. I was worried that you might need the table back at 8:30pm which would have been right in the middle of the match. So, I called the bar on Tuesday 6th July to double check that we were going to be able to stay for the whole match. I spoke to a lady on the phone, unfortunately didn’t get her name but she took my name and checked my booking on the system and reassured me that because my table was booked until 8:30pm, they had stopped all bookings from 8pm so she confirmed with me that we had the table for the whole evening and could definitely stay for the whole match.

However, I turned up for my table at 6:30pm yesterday to be told by the man at the door that he needed my table back at 8pm and we couldn’t watch the match as they had given our table to someone else. I showed the man my confirmation and even showed him that I called the bar on Tuesday and was on the phone for 48 seconds. He said he believed me but there was nothing he could do. I don’t even think he apologised once. He was so unhelpful and clearly didn’t care at all that he had completely messed up our booking and left us with absolutely nowhere to go for the England final. He didn’t even try and find a solution for us.

I booked this table two in advance AND called on Tuesday to double check the booking. How and why have we then turned up and been told we cant stay for allocated time of our booking? It’s absolutely unacceptable, I have never booked a table, gone to a restaurant/bar and be turned away FOR NO REASON!? This was completely Grumpy Monkey’s fault and none of the staff were helpful or tried to find a solution for us.

My friends and I are usually a loyal customers to you, but I will never be returning to your bar as you clearly don’t know what customer service is....

I strongly recommend anyone considering visting this establishment to steer clear, paricularly if you are group of lads. The security staff here are aggressive on a whole new level and are looking for a reason get into a fight. After visting them on a christmas jumper night we were abruptly told by one of the secuity team that the table we were using was booked out and that we were to leave even though we had been their for a number of hours before hand causing no problems, after a member of our group questioned this they decided that brute force and agression was appropriate. In the process I was taken down by one of their security team with my back turned after approaching and trying to question what was going on. This lead to me receiving a sprained knee of which I was unable to work for a whole month. After we were removed video footage shows how aggresive they approached the situation. One of their security team even implied that taking a few of us out the back and roughing us up was a good idea. I have visited many different drinking establishments in Southampton and have never been handled so agressively, my suggestions would be to use one of the many other establishments surrounding them because I dont think it will be long before someone is more seriously injured and after reading some of their other reviews, I dont think it wont be long before their...

Shocking behaviour of security staff. We were a party of 6 in Southampton celebrating a new engagement and we decided on the grumpy monkey for a few cocktails during the England game for the euros. Immediately as we arrived the menacing thugs at the door were aggressive, confrontational and made us feel unwelcome. Throughout the evening they were looking to attack and fight anyone that would lay eyes on them and some of the things I heard and saw from the security team truly horrified me. They were acting like a gang of Wild West bandits throughout the night and I personally witnessed one attack a women, hit her in the face and throw her by the hair onto the concrete. I’ve never been so shocked in all my life. I’d highly recommend you steer clear of this place, the security should be examined in full by the owners because what we witnessed was completely unacceptable and I couldn’t quite believe my eyes. If we are in Southampton again which we do usually find ourselves for boat week etc, we will never visit here again and I urge all other people strongly to stay away....
