Myself and my partner have just moved in across the road down from Manchester, and after seeing the reviews (includng the negatives) we decided to make our own mind up on the venue and went over at the weekend with some friends. We were blown away by the service. The food was great and the cocktails were amazing too. Our neighbour (a clear busy body) had been slating the place to us (regarding noise etc) and we don't get that, why move next to a pub if you're going to moan about being next door to a pub, pretty sure the neighbour is responsible for the negative reviews here to be fair. So we would suggest you try it out for yourselves. We met the landlady who was lovely, we also bumped into someone we know, who used to live a few doors down from us 20 odd years ago. We always wondered how he was doing in the South, he is still one of the funniest people we know. The locals and team members that we did talk to, which was only a few were very warm and inviting. Nothing like the horror stories us northern people have been told about the southern people haha.
All in all it was the perfect venue for a good few drinks in the sun with friends, great food and music and a great little beer garden. Could definitely do with some shrubbery and some flowers in the garden to make it 100% but I'm sure these guys are on it.
So yes, absolutely make up your own mind. As with everything in life, you cannot please everyone, but it's a far cry from the nonsense that's been posted on here. And we most definitely will be back most weekends!
Also worth noting that we felt extremely welcome and safe there, I did after all use the word partner (so if you ever wondered whether its "inclusive", we found that to be an exceptionally hard yes) Thumbs up all round. Thank You for a wonderful weekend and our first southern...
Read moreI wish I could give separate reviews for the hotel and the pub, as there were totally different experiences. I would leave a 5 for the pub and a 1 for the hotel, so I averaged a 3 for them both.
The Bar and Grill was fantastic! The food was delicious and the beer was ice cold. We ate there for dinner the night we arrived and breakfast the next morning. Both meals were great!
Then there was the hotel. Definitely not the same experience. A huge old house converted into individual sleeping rooms. Ours had a private bath but most had to share a bath in the hall. Our room as filthy, loud and uncomfortable. The worst place we have ever stayed in. The mattress was something out of the 1950s, so thin and lumpy with the springs trying to poke through. The entire suite was disgustingly dirty. It was quite obvious that it had not been cleaned in months. Toilet was dirty and the seat was broken. Dirt and hair on the floors and shower and mold in the shower. This place needs some major work! Every room in town was booked for an event and we knew we were a stuck there. The room was affordable but not worth it. Others have posted the same complaints, a few years back, and we had hoped that the new owner would have made the appropriate corrections, but...
Read moreExtremely unsatisfied! Rooms smell like dirt, there were stains from an unknown source on the carpet, the soap was so dirty I had to buy a new one. It was in a plastic bottle which is meant to be used one time but it probably has stayed there for years because the colors on the label have faded. There was a shared bathroom, which had white stains on the floor. We booked for 7 nights but left the next day because of the horrible conditions. The hotel also doesn't have an electronic system and they make notes of the rooms in huge books witch are also very old. They made the mistake to withdraw the money for my stay two times so I had to call them for a refund. This is unacceptable! I am never staying in that hotel again! Oh and also, no wi-fi in the rooms, not even one bit. Please do not make my mistake and find a better...
