We arrived and ordered our main meals and drinks which were served in good time. Then we ordered coffees and an Eton Mess. Coffees arrived OK. The Eton Mess dessert didn't arrive...I waited, and waited and waited. I returned to the bar to enquire where my dessert was. Initially I was told there would an hour and half wait (!) for this new food order. I pointed out it had already been ordered and paid for. At this the server told me it would be around another 15 minutes. When I said that this was unacceptable (it would meant around a total of 40 minutes after ordering) she went to get the young man who had taken the order. More excuses...the pub had since my order become busy etc, etc. He promised me 5 minutes maximum - 7 minutes later it arrived. No offer of a reduction, free extra coffee whilst I waited. The food is good, but communication with customers seems poor, let alone customer service and wanting to keep customers on side. We were also looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch; after this experience we are...
Read moreOk but when a young lad knocked a glass on the floor on his way out that was in the radiator by the door, and it wasn't his glass and it was by accident...
Watching the bouncers tell him to pick the glass up with bare hands whilst they stood watching laughing...I don't think is appropriate behaviour for ANYONE ...especially people in their position.
I tried to bring it up a few weeks ago but due to a private event I was told by a different set of security staff noone would come and speak to me about it.
So yeah disgusting behaviour two grown men forcing a young lad to do something potentially dangerous and against health and safety ...but at least they felt like big hard boys for a moment in their lives. Bouncers should never assume everyone is drunk...because I wasn't when I saw that and after I told them how disgusting it was they didn't seem to care so they obviously feel untouchable.
Shame cus the pub itself isn't a bad place...but if that's whose in charge of keeping me safe I'd...
Read moreSpur of the moment decision to visit this pub but my partner and I were extremely pleased we did ......first impressions were that of a very warm, welcoming, recently refurbished establishment, offering cosy places to sit by the fire, with a great choice of food and drink. From initially only wanting a quick beverage before venturing further afield for dinner, we decided to spend a few very pleasant hours here chatting to the new owners, and we ordered from the Sunday menu. The choices all sounded delicious, and we both settled for homemade soup of the day (leek, potato and spinach) followed by brisket of beef with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings, finishing with Bakewell tart & ice-cream. This was accompanied with a complimentary cappuccino. We could not find fault with anything; the food and service were excellent, the owners very charming and welcoming, and we would not hesitate to recommend the Red Lion to our family and friends, with future visits by us most...
