Kambuja Marple — Restaurant in Stockport

Great food but disappointing service. I'm so sad to be writing this review as my previous experiences here have been wonderful. We took 2 friends tonight to eat in Marple, table of 4. ² Our drinks arrived fine, including a small ( 1 person serving £8).of prosecco. We ordered 2 small plates to share and our 4 mains and the waitress read back our order to us. Our small plates came out, one of which was wrong, this was rectified immediately and we were also given the wrong order for free ( which was not expected and very nice ) . Main course arrived for 3 of us. Then waitress came back to say she had forgotten to put my order through and ask again what it was. Everyone else ate their mains whilst I waited for mine ( which to be fair came out as quickly as.they could make it). After this we ordered 3 desserts. Two desserts came out and we had to ask again for the lime posset we had ordered as well. My husband paid the bill and left a tip, as we decided after all everyone has busy evenings and bad days and the food was still delicious. When we got home i double checked the bill (.as he mentioned it was higher than he exoected) to see that we had been charged £28 for a bottle of prosecco and not the £8 for the one person serving I received. Yes we should have double checked at the time and that is on us, but it really just added to the disappointing service we experienced tonight. Not the standard of service I expect really of such a usually...

SEE UPDATE BELOW - BEWARE 1st Visti - Wow!! What an absolute hidden gem we have here! After we stumbled upon this restaurant by accident we weren’t disappointed- absolutely delicious!! The menu was wide ranging and catered for our plant based diets plus also had a meat selection for our company. The food was all round great with fair sized portions and service with a smile. The actual restaurant was lovely, cosy to a degree (could always be improved) and small and quaint enough to make this simply a great place to dine! Would definitely come here again!

23rd Sept 2023 - Lunchtime - UPDATE- Wow what a difference! Came for my dad’s birthday and sadly the service was absolutely shocking. The lady who served us was so rude she was practically ‘telling us off’ for choosing items on the menu. She was unhelpful, rude and downright impolite and we were all shocked. She couldn’t have done less for us. Also, the ordered food came out wrong - no apology and they even tried to charge us for the items on the bill. Shocked!…what an absolute disgrace - won’t be coming...

The staff were welcoming and engaging, the space is beautiful, but most crucially of all the food was out-of-this-world.

I had the corn fritters to start - lots of flavours and aromas going on but somehow it all worked together, along with the delicious dip.

I then had the steak with some salt and pepper chips; I felt like this could be a Cambodian take on steak frites. I had mine medium-rare as recommended by the house, and accompanied by the warm peppery sauce it was exquisite. There was no overwhelming heat/spice, it was just very, very tasty. I'm sure I got way past the point of being full, but I would have gladly kept eating - only come here if you're either very disciplined or willing to put on weight!

Unable to resist extending my experience, I plumped for the apple fritters for dessert - I'm not the biggest apple fan, but they cane highly recommended - I'm very glad I gave them a try; if all apples were this delicious I would have grown up eating five a day.
