One star for friendly staff, another for location and a third for hygiene. The other two stars lost on food and menu. I had a "hot" BLT barm so was expecting hot bacon and tomato with a few pieces of lettuce. The barm was a good size with fresh ingredients to match, however the bacon was barely lukewarm with cold uncooked slices of tomato. Furthermore the bacon was too salty with fat that I needed to remove (yuk). The small side salad was the nicest part but even then the coleslaw tasted sharp to me. Personally I would have liked a small cooked breakfast but that is only served up to 11:30am and only then as a large version! I had taken my very elderly mid 90's mother on what was a mini heatwave day (against my advice) so we sat indoors but no air conditioning provided (ie no fan(s)) other than the patio doors were open and when we got home she was feeling the effects of the heat. Mother had a cheese and ham toastie which she "said was nice" but only ate half so I had the other half rather than waste but it rather struck me as very stodgy to be honest. Why not offer a few lighter options in the summer months eg some salads (you do small side salads anyway). In a spirit of constructive criticism I just feel that the menu could be so much better with more options generally including some healthy ones. And having some quiet easy listening music would have given the extra star...
Read moreA nice place close to the centre of Stockport with free parking and a coffee shop on site. Running along the river Goyt with fishing by the ticket of Stockport Federation its a nice pleasant walk, some steps one way and with slopes to assist the disabled or cyclists the other. The Coffee shop is at the top of the hill so be prepared for a short climb before your refreshments. There is a memorial and plenty of seating areas around the park. Follow the 'Fred Perry Way' for some nice views over Stockport and the Goyt Valley, the park also has the old House on the top that is unfortunately not in use at the moment. Plenty of dog walkers and family strollers enjoy the park which is a good stiff walk around. There is a car park at the front on a low level and at the top to save the hill climb. Toilets and food also available at the...
Read moreVery pleasant and cosy little cafe perched at the top of the hill in Vernon Park. Small but difficult cent range of hot and cold food and drink options, and really quite reasonably priced which was a surprise. Got 4 drinks, a sandwich, and two potions of chips and it all came to under £9. Coffee was decent enough (real coffee not instant), the sandwich was prepacked but obviously freshly made: thick slices of cheese with lettuce tomato cucumber and onion. All looked very fresh, no tired browning lettuce and this was a Sunday. Chips were catering grade, but served hot and you got plenty. There is a shop underneath hut this appears to be shut on a Sunday. Toilets, limited facilities but they are clean which is most important. Overall, impressed although it's a shame its no dogs inside as the park is very popular with...
