Bisley House Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Stroud

So much potential here. Great building and location, the décor however is a real let down with no real theme or atmosphere. Plastic plants, horse painting and high backed chairs need to go! And the cactus placed right by the salt and pepper (minor moan but they were already ground...) kept catching us with it's spikes. The menu, an American influenced affair with some Welsh touches, (btw, I love Wales and my husband is Welsh) but wouldn't it make more sense to source produce locally here in the Cotswolds? With the cost of living increasing going out for a meal is a real treat and what a shame not to make the most of what could be a great place. The description of the burger I ordered didn't fully describe what was served, it had tomato and fresh lettuce but no mention of this on the menu. I could tell the chef had an understanding of flavors, but unfortunately it was a average burger. Served on a small piece of slate, which was way too small and my food was spilling onto the table. Wasn't too impressed with the waiter delivering our food, picking up a cat to move it, then going back to the kitchen to pick up the rest of our order... I hope he washed his hands! Adding to the experience was smoke blowing in from someone smoking by the front door, and some people watching loud videos on their phones and vaping near to us....

We arrived for our booking at 7.30, got our food at 9.07 after having to search out someone to take our order & then again to get water for the table as this was not offered. Waitress who took our order was not happy to see us & gave general impression of not wanting to be there. When the food arrived it was fine but side orders were all mixed up. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon which wasn't great but when we tried to order again we were told there wasn't any. The lad who served the food was helpful but we were all annoyed by this point, especially by the attitude of the waitress. We hunted her out about 9pm as we were ready to leave if the food was going to be much longer & she said it would be 2 minutes....what I hadn't realised is that it is all burgers (a friend made the booking) so even more surprising they took 90 minutes. Really wouldn't recommend & won't be...

Extra star for the food as that was great, but service didn't exist tonight. Took 15 minutes to get a pint poured and bottle taken out of the fridge. I expected the food will not be quick after that start and I wasn't wrong. If I wasn't so hungry I would have stood up and left. I'm pretty sure after asking about my food for the second time is when they started working on it, and no, only two other people were having food at the time so the kitchen wasn't overwhelmed.

Late for following appointment, manager wasn't aware of what's happening and seemed surprised to see us leave. Took the food away in a box as we were now late. No napkins and no sauce on the wings which we previously asked about. And atmosphere was probably 1 star also, not necessarily the venue fault but to add to the situation it makes a big cross on the map of where not...
