Found this hidden gem of a pub whilst waiting for the train. A selection of nine beers were available for prices between £3.80 and £4.60. Beer in good condition too. Shame I wasn't around on a Sunday, as the Sunday Lunch menu looks good for £11 for two courses, £12 for three. Worth a visit if in Stroud and you enjoy a great pint of real ale, cider, or perry!

Large restored Victorian pub with friendly staff and impressive range of beers. Toilets are upstairs but a "radar key" disabled toilet is available on the ground floor. Steps up to the entrance but disabled friendly. Two large rooms with smaller ante-room off the main bar. Very comfortable and well-appointed pub, gold stars all round !!

Nice place , good Ale choice ( I should hope so with a name like this ! ) rather pricey at £ 10.50 for 2 halfs of ( standard strength ) ale & a G & T ! ( Its Stroud not London ) . We went when Stroud Wassail was on & a full pub with 20 or so Morris dancers signing & playing made it a fantastic atmosphere .

Disappointed. Limited menu and on the board it sounds great but when you can't have spice and end up with a choice between chicken liver pate and sausage and mash! Okay, limited generally means do what you do really well. Nope. Lamb Saggu, not spicy (if only I'd known!) Some really fatty lumps and far too much rice. Chicken liver pate...not to my taste but that's me. However, a bagged salad, already going brown, very limited dressing, a teaspoon of pickle and 2 pats of butter to my huge heap of toast? Not good. No we don't do mayo...okay, could I have another pat of butter please? Erm....clearly.not as it never materialised Yes a huge choice of ales but what a let down. Wandered down the road and came upon the Curio lounge. Tha k god! Maybe I'm.just not 'Stroudy' enough!! But no, for £28 for our meals and a pint I'd at least expect fresh and...

The Ale House was completely empty when we arrived on a weekday late evening. We were told to read off a few chalkboards for food choices. It was difficult to read and we were apprehensive. Ultimately, we decided on the Rundown Chicken upon the employee's suggestion. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The creamy coconut sauce had a slight heat and the chicken thighs were quite tender with yummy brown rice. We greatly enjoyed the pear cider we had as well. The only thing that upset us was when we warmed up our leftovers the next day the scotch bonnet peppers had soaked in so much the food was impossible to eat. All to say, maybe split a Rundown Chicken because it should not be wasted but the...

We had a table booked for 11 people at 13:00 for the set Sunday lunch menu (beef or asparagus and mint tart). We were going to have 8 vegetarian options and 3 beefs, but were told there weren't enough vegetarian portions. There were a total of 5 vegetarians among us, and some people that don't like beef. 3 people decided to change to the beef option, but there still weren't enough vegetarian options. I find it absolutely ridiculous that there were only 3 vegetarian tarts available at 13:00. When asked if we could supplement the tart with extra vegetables, we were denied. Absolutely horrible service and a severe lack of preparation. We decided to leave and...
