Tosca — Restaurant in Sunderland

Just thought I would post a thank you to this little gem of a place! We were in Sunderland for the Ed Sheeran concert on Friday 3rd June and were recommended this place by relatives and it did not disappoint! When I originally called the lovely lady who answered explained it was outside their normal booking hours but would check and call back, which she duly did and we were delighted when they were able to accommodate our booking! When we arrived, all I will say it don't judge a book by its cover, you could easily miss the place and it doesn't look that special from outside. However once we were inside we were greeted by warm and friendly staff who were attentive and lovely throughout our visit. The food was fantastic and to say it was good value is an understatement! Over 40 years ago a young Italian chef called Rino came to Sunderland and to my knowledge, opened the first Italian restaurant in the Binns building producing all the best of traditional Italian food. Many have followed and many have left, but Rino stayed on and when Sunderland Council decided it's library was going there, Rino had to move. He by now had his family base in Sunderland so he aquired the premises in Derwent Street and continued to give us his gregarious, friendly service and beautifully tasty cuisine. Visted last night. We were so dissatisfied. Staff were nice and pleasant. However the food was disgusting. Had garlic mushrooms. They appeared to have a watery sauce poured over. When the main arrived the same watery sauce as the mushrooms had, was poured over the chicken. The sauce wad cold so sent back. I was unable to eat the chicken. All I all was awful. Complained they said it was new chef. They took the chicken off the bill. Won't...
