I took my partner here at the end of August as a summer holiday date. I grew up locally in Teignmouth and used to visit the London regularly - it's a well known and loved spot in neighbouring Shaldon. However on our most recent visit it was an absolute comedy of errors. As we arrived one family muttered 'good luck' and boy did we need it. The service and food were both abysmal. Some highlights: *'I know you ordered a pint but they gave me a half so it's not my fault' - Waitress; *I ordered the lamb - one of the most expensive dishes on the menu and it was honestly like a school dinner - sloppy, dry, flavourless; *not getting a side 'oh I asked the chef if he'd make it for you (onion rings - a side on the menu) and he said no' - Waitress; *a 'build your own burger' that was totally wrong - would've been better if he'd built it himself (!); *waitress who put our food on the table and then walked off, I went to find her to ask about our sides and to get some sauces and she said 'yeah in a minute' and carried on writing a reservation sign for the next day; *an Irish coffee with squirty cream. That said, we had one lovely waitress towards the end of our evening who confessed the new chef isn't making things easy on the front of house team, and our starters of brushetta and goats cheese were lovely. We didn't make a fuss on the night because it seemed like it'd been really tough on the staff, and can only hope they get back to their usual standards soon otherwise it'll be a huge loss! Ultimately though, save yourself £90 and go and get fish and...
Read moreWe had two nights at the London Inn, it's a lovely bedroom, everything you need even a mini fridge for milk the landlord gave us. The biscuits supplied so much better than most in accommodations. We ate there Friday night and I had chicken kiev wow that was excellent and my partner a steak he said cooked to perfection. Saturday night we tried the tapas that was tasty and choices were for most tastes. We enjoyed the atmosphere it was so friendly, we drank there the ale was excellent, as was the wine and prosecco. After check out which was 11am ideal on a Sunday, we went for a walk and came back and enjoyed a Sunday Roast , wow the batter pudding was so light and we rarely have them but was the best we have had and we eat out alot so compliments to the chef, and made our roast beef dinner. The staff were so friendly and polite a credit to a brilliant local business, the landlord ensured we had everything we needed, so nice it made our weekend, so thank you very much...
Read moreCame down for a weekend and decided to pop into the pub for a few drinks and some food. We walk in and the place is crammed, although they were busy and fully booked they still managed to fit us in while we had a few drinks and ordered food. We were sat down just before our food came out and WOW. I have never tasted anything like the food we had, it was to die for, by far the best meal I had ever had! I had the pie of the day which was chicken, bacon and tarragon and my girlfriend had the butternut, beetroot burger and she also agreed it was the best meal she's ever had, we haven't stopped talking about the meal since we got back, everything was amazing, it had the good'ol pub vibes you look for with real ales and a buzzing environment but also a sophisticated restaurant area! This is the first review I have ever done where I have eaten but I believe the london inn deserves it very much, also very friendly staff. The wait to be seated was more than worth it! Go if...
