If you’re looking for a cream tea experience that pairs perfectly with waterfront views, the Strand Café overlooking the boats offers just that—a serene and charming setting where you can enjoy scones while watching the boats go by. Here’s why the Strand Café is a must-visit for the best scones and cream tea experience:

Scones: Fresh and Buttery Perfection

• The scones here are baked fresh daily, served warm with a golden-brown crust and soft, airy interior. They offer both plain and fruit options, each with a subtle sweetness that lets the rich flavor of the butter shine. • There’s a perfect balance of crumbly and soft textures, which pairs wonderfully with clotted cream and jam. Each bite melts in your mouth, leaving you craving more.

Clotted Cream and Jam: The Perfect Accompaniments

• The clotted cream at the Strand Café is thick, rich, and indulgently smooth. It’s generously served, making it ideal for those who love a good, creamy dollop on their scones. • The homemade jam is a standout, featuring seasonal fruits that are both sweet and slightly tart, creating a wonderful contrast to the cream.

Tea Selection: Classic Yet Thoughtful

• The tea menu isn’t extensive, but it offers quality over quantity, with classics like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and a floral Darjeeling. For a lighter option, they also have a refreshing mint tea that’s perfect on a warm day. • The teas are served loose-leaf, steeped to just the right strength, and poured into charming porcelain teapots. The staff is attentive, often offering to top up the tea or suggest a blend that pairs well with the scones.

Ambiance: The Perfect Waterfront Escape

• The Strand Café’s location is its defining feature. With large windows and outdoor seating, it offers panoramic views of the waterfront and the boats gently bobbing along the shore. The scenery adds a tranquil, coastal vibe, making the experience feel like a mini-vacation. • Whether you’re seated indoors or outside, the café’s ambiance is relaxed and welcoming, with cozy decor that mixes seaside charm with a bit of rustic chic.

Service: Friendly and Welcoming

• The staff at the Strand Café are warm and friendly, adding a personal touch to the experience. They’re knowledgeable about their teas and happy to recommend pairings, making sure you feel looked after without being intrusive.

Final Thoughts

• The Strand Café is a hidden gem for those who appreciate good scones and a view. The combination of fresh, buttery scones, decadent clotted cream, and homemade jam with a scenic backdrop of boats is hard to beat. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is the perfect spot to unwind with a classic British cream tea while soaking up the coastal atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful and delicious afternoon...

Took my son and his girlfriend here for lunch on Sunday. We had the crab sandwich at £16.95, the soy chicken at £16.95, the creole prawn baguette at 12.95, a cappuccino, a coke and a lemonade. All came to a whopping £59.70,so just shy of £60! I couldn’t believe it!

My sons crab sandwich was small, bread, nothing special, cut into four small triangles, with half a packet of salted crisps and a small side salad, more of a garnish, he was still hungry after eating it, and certainly not worth nearly £17. My baguette was tiny, smaller than a demi baguette, with only 6 small prawns inside, with a small salad and half a packet of salted crisps.

The food didn’t come out together, despite it not being very busy, we had to wait a while for the chicken dish to come out. The outside area was not well kept. Just a few chairs and table basically plonked there, no ambiance or atmosphere. On a positive note- Inside looked nice, and the sauce for my baguette was delicious, as was the dressing on the side salad, and the sauce on...

We have been trying to get here for a meal for probably 5yrs !! We were fans of No 26 cafe in Teignmouth owned by the same lady but sadly closed and now a new establishment. So.....at last we have made it ! It was mid day and beyond but quiet. Nice ambiance and a similar feel to No 26 and a nice decor. Previously I have always loved the various Croque's at 26 and they are still available here. So a Croque Maison was the meal of choice. Quite expensive at £14.95 considering it's a snack/brunch really but it was absolutely delicious. My partner had the sweet potato soup and a lovely roll. Good service but sadly they wouldn't let us sit in the lovely window seat ( which annoyingly remain empty throughout our visit ! ). There is a outdoor area which I'm sure is a delight on a lovely summer's day overlooking the Teign estuary and Teignmouth beyond.....we will be back but working out whether it is open or not is another...

Lovely little cafe! Went for lunch on a Sunday, it was quiet when we got there but busier when we left. Lovely to see walkers popping in for a coffee to keep them going! My husband got the ratatouille which was a special that day - it was brilliant! Very glad they had that special too as otherwise not sure what he’d have had (a veggie who’s not that fond of cheese) I got the brilliant Croque Monsieur which was lovely and nice to come with crisps and a small salad
