Owner is friendly, restaurant is only 16 covers but lacks ambience, even with Bollywood music CD. Menu is fairly limited for an Indian restaurant, which I thought might suggest a focus on no nonsense quality (my yearning for Bradford curry houses of the 1980's) But why offer puris and not chapattis? Poppadums were fresh and pickles generous. For mains, partner and I had chicken vindaloo and chicken jalfrezi, tarka dhal, pillau rice and Peshwari nans. Unfortunately, the food was rather bland and tired. The meat was dry and sauce too 'pasty' for my taste. The dhal had been reheated too many time so lentils had become mushy. Nan breads tasted fresh(ish), but a travesty of Pershwari cuisine as no real flavour in the filling. All in all, pricey for what is offered, but comparable with local rates. However, the Cobra beer is relatively cheap, so if you fancy a few cold ones and some spicy food on the South Devon coast this will serve, but a sumptuous experience of authentic Indian cuisine, this...
Read moreThe food was excellent 5/5 But the service was very poor. The waiter was friendly enough but he was constantly distracted chatting with his colleagues. The order has to be ordered in a certain way and was taken an hour in to our visit, the drinks took 30 minutes to come, when we reordered drinks he brought 2 of them then charred again for 10 minutes before bringing the other two. When he asked if we wanted a refill on the starter dips we said no, 15 minutes later we had run out of a couple of things so asked for a refill after all which was treated by the waiter rudely. Also, although there was a sign on the door that said cash only we weren’t told about it at the start of the meal. I even phoned up and he asked me if it was my first time so when I said yes it seemed liked the perfect opportunity to tell me about this. Overall I have to recommend because the food was that good but the service was a...
Read moreStrange one this as the food was pretty good. It's just that many parts of the restaurant are covered in really thick grime, filth and dirt. Like severely bad. The white light switch and wall by the bar are visibly filthy. They're supposed to be white but they're stained grey from pure grime. The toilets are the same, with stained walls and all the surfaces thick with dirt and grime. Although we enjoyed the food, unfortunately the experience of looking at the dirt and grime made my fiance and me feel really quite sick. It made us wonder what the hygiene levels are actually like behind that curtain in the kitchen. Basic levels of hygiene and cleanliness are massively lacking here and it's...
