Pie and mash, a favourite treat for many people. This dish has a history going back to the eastend of london where it was considered the poor peoples option if you had to eat out and as a kid I remember often being taken to the local pie and mash shop for dinner by my mum. Today the food might be similar but the cost is far from cheap for what is essentially mashed potatoes, pastry and a spoonful of mince in gravy. I took my grandson in here for a meal and it set me back £22 so should have gone cafe. But if it's the odd trip down memory lane then this is the place. Give it a go if you haven't tried it. I often used to take my mum here as a sort of reminder of when I was 5 yeas old and we used to have a quick pie and mash while out shopping. Just to say service is friendly and its always been clean when I've been here, the food is good but it's got to expensive...
Read moreWell gave this a try in the end, and was it worth the visit? Ok, here we go, my synopsis!! 2+2 and 1+1 and glass of coke £13.50. Let me just start by saying that we are a bit spoilt in East and Sarf London, and to be fair, this was never gonna compare, but I was expecting that anyway TBH. Pies were bit too doughy for me, but did have a fair amount of mince in. Mash was fine although prefer it spooned on to the plate as opposed to the old Ice Cream scoops. Vinegar was tasteless, even the chilli, but overall wasn't too bad. Would I go out of my way to eat there again, probably not, if I was in the area, would I eat there again, maybe, even with it being rather expensive compared to what we are used to!! 2 pleasent young ladies serving with a nice smile, gets no...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen using Whites since it opened, food is fantastic. Went there today to sit in and was disappointed with their lack of social distancing so i got takeaway instead. Other than the table next to the counter every other table was available to sit at. There was a plastic screen between staff and customers which provided protection for them but out in the seating area it left a lot to be desired. There were 6 people behind me waiting to be served which went back to the door so people wanting to leave had to push past. I think a member of staff should have been monitoring the queue and stopping so many entering at one time. Under present circumstances I think peoples wellbeing should out way profit,hence...
