Pretty much a fake unofficial Nando's (not 100% sure why they never opened a Nando's in Andover, my guess is that they have branches in Basingstoke and Salisbury, both within a half hour drive from Andover.) Given that people of Andover have been crying out for a Nando's for years the owners of Frango have obviously identified that gap in the market is a very good business idea.
The deals and quality here are pretty much on par with Nando's (mostly excellent) great value, great food. The only things I thought could be better are more mypmy own personal preference than really anything critical. I thought the lemon and herb dressing was very heavy on the lemon but my housemate liked it and I think the Piri Piri marinade could have been a bit spicier (but then I'm not a big lover of lemon and herb and I like chilli that is comparable to licking the surface of the sun)
I felt there was a bit of a clash in decor as well, I wasn't sure if they're trying to create an atmosphere of a country pub or an American diner. Probably a strange thing to comment on but it's like going to an Indian and it being decorated more like an oriental takeaway crossed with a Mexican: it just doesn't seem "right". I found my eyes darting around a lot trying to puzzle it out. The good thing is that Frango aren't trying to appeal largely to the 16-25 demographic with all the punchy slogans, slang, text speak etc. like Nando's do.
All in all, great food and great...
Read moreI always enjoyed the local frangos, was up until the new ownership fantastic value and quality. NYE they were not particularly busy at the point of my order. The service was lack lustre , don't understand collection process, no greeting point like before, service mediocre in professionalism. The food Chicken - more greasy previous people massively better Chips - they were kebab chips not the old fluffy chips Spicy rice - certainly not spicy and more like vegetable rice. Salad - omg it was like the dead ends of a salad bar at the end of an evening, limp lettuce, sour tomato and soggy cucumber. I really don't like writing a negative review, however the old frangos was far superior to the new frangos. They really need to improve food quality and service. It has gone down hill. Having read new reviews I had high hopes, however it is the polar opposite as the food quality is nowhere near as others have described. As I was a takeaway, I really didn't have time to drive back and complain. A lot of the food was waste as it was poor. I am devastated as frangos was one of my favourite places to eat and enjoy for all occasions. I fear with this level of poor quality that massive improvement is needed to win...
Read moreWent last Friday for late night meal with hubs. Okay place a little bit green and dark. I feel like I concentrate on staff when I go for food and they didn't have a lot of engery and didn't have that "buzz" you expect in a restaurant. Staff didn't wear a uniform and where not well presented for a company.
Hightlight: I thought the chicken was really nice along with there garlic bread and spicy rice.
Cons : Lemonade was sold as "fresh" but came out of a pot which I saw the manager make but wasnt as advertised. This place could be alot better if had some better lighting and perked up staff engery!
This place is pretty much budget nando's without the buzz of nando's music and lack of speed and charisma.
Thoughts : Would I recommend it if someone wanted something loy key ? Yes
Would I...
