Chuck and Blade Burgers — Restaurant in Thanet

Ramsgate has been crying out for more restaurants, especially ones that serve decent food at reasonable prices. Chuck and Blade fits this brief. I was last in the venue when it was Pizza Express, and not much has changed inside. That said we were greeted by a cheerful waiter, James who showed us to a table that had a great view of the harbour. Beers were promptly served, well chilled and hit the spot. Now for the food- being vegan I often find restaurants leave us out to a degree but I was glad the 'Hugh Plant' (a great play on words!) was available. Vegan sides are somewhat lacking, however the skin on fries were hot and tasty. One friend had the 'Cluck Norris' a huge affair that was of note, another had the 'In and Out' burger again another very generous sized burger and the last of our group had the 'Plain Jane' a single patty number. The beef patties are all made in house and it shows. All my friends enjoyed their burgers as did I. I have to say the pickles are amazing. Made in house too and look like proper cucumbers rather than your jarred gherkins. A real hit. James was friendly, and checked in on us to make sure everything was in order. He knew his stuff when I quizzed him about the restaurant which has a few branches in Kent. Two beers, a burger and those fantastic fries came in at £21.50 a head including service. Amazing value! We came as a family of five while some of the meals were okay, two of the “special” burgers we ordered were rubbish. The chorizo burger which was supposed to have bite size pieces as per the menu came as one very fat sausage which had been cut in half and cooked on too high for too short of a time. Meaning the inside of the sausage the fat wasn’t rendered at all with huge chucks of lukewarm warm fat and mushy meat and the outside of the sausage was still covered in the paper skin so when you bit into it you had a mouth full of chewy paper. (The chorizo went home for the pets to eat)

We also ordered the beef brisket poutine however received no brisket because apparently the ordering system didn’t allow the servers to select the meat on the system. When we asked about it there was a taller blond girl who was really rude and immediate response was a stroppy “what’s wrong with it”. Regardless they rectified the dish, unfortunately no body on our table ate the chips because they were covered in a very salty gravy.

The paprika fries didn’t come seasoned you just got given a little pot of spice to add on yourself.

When it came to paying the bill we sat trying to get the servers attention for a good 20 mins in an almost empty restaurant while they all stood by the kitchen chatting and ignoring us. (There was one younger brunette short girl who seemed nice and helpful)

We ordered what looked like a really good deal and some really good food on deliveroo fron chuck and blade in Ramsgate. Wow, how wrong were we, so initially we ordered a meal deal that came with 2 burgers, hallumi fries, chicken tenders, and some dirty fries. When the order arrived, we opened it up only to find our fries and sauces were missing. When I tried to call, it took me about 5 minutes for someone to answer. When they finally did answer, I spoke to a woman who claimed to be the supervisor. whilst she was sorry and the mistake had happen in the kitchen, she then informed me there was nothing they could do and we had to put a refund in with deliveroo 1st, which takes ages to approve. I'm sorry, but if I order food, then I expect it to turn up and if it doesn't then the place I've ordered with I expect them to send it out. If they have made the mistake then you pay for it not us. By the time I had finished the pointless debate with the woman who clearly wasn't going to do anything about the mistake her restaurant had made which she openly admitted my food that had turned up had gone cold. My wife had a chicken burger which she couldn't eat because it tasted like fish. One thing is for sure It has put us off chuck and blade and will we definitely NOT be odering from them again.
