A big surprise!! I was in Ramsgate and was gasping for a cuppa. Saw a sign for tea rooms and rushed in. It was like I had just walked out of the Tardis into the 1930s. Wonderful attention to details for a war time themed tea room. The owners had lovingly thought out and sourced many items from this time period. I had a cheese and pickle sandwich, scone and a pot of tea all for £10.95. Absolutely delighted to receive real tea in a china pot with a hand knitted tea cosy on it. It came with a tea strainer and was loose leaf tea. Milk in a glass jug and sugar in an antique glass jar. The cheese and pickle sandwich was freshly made and came with a generous side of salad and crisps. I also ordered a home made fruit scone which was delicious (thinking the sandwich wasn't enough, my mistake). The menu was authentic to the time period with "spam" sandwiches which I thought was hilarious. More importantly all the food is home made from scratch. In every pot with the sauce sachets was a little pair of scissors to snip the end of the sachets, a very nice touch! Staff were very attentive and made me feel welcome. I ate my food and watched an old bakelite tv in the corner. The whole thing reminded me of visiting my nan on Sunday afternoons. Heartily reccomend and well done to...
Read moreNeeding a cuppa we stopped in yesterday June 2nd. Had a lemon drizzle cake too. We were hooked. We book the special tea for today. Arrived to find the window table deck in a lovely embroidered table cloth with beautiful china and cutlery. Buckingham Palace Garden Party Tea was absolutely delicious. The 3 tier cake stand 4 different sandwiches, ham and tomato, brie and cranberry, smoked salmon and cream cheese and chicken and tarragon. All fresh and very good. Chicken and tarragon was my favourite though. Next tier was sweet scone, clotted cream and rose hip jam. Perfect. Top tier was lemon drizzle and chocolate cakes. Again very good. The service was impeckable and all the staff friendly and helpful. A big bonus for us is it is dog friendly and you even get dog biscuits. The decor is really fun too, lots of posters, pictures and objects. Highly recomended if you are anywhere...
Read moreFirst time in Ramsgate for years, and we chance upon this little slice of nostalgia! Friendly service, in a beautifully staged and furnished environment. Crockery and cutlery from yesterday, like we remembered from our childhoods, carefully collected like the furniture, and even the music, to evoke a war or post war feeling. Add in chunky sandwiches, and a choice of other goodies, and it was deliciously different from a normal cafe without a penalty for it's quirky style. Well worth a visit, or for us, another visit. A blast of history and good food...
