Decided to book lala's before having a few drinks in town, its a rare treat as we both work hard and don't get the opportunity normally. After being seated we were talking and both said how dirty the restaurant looked on the way up the stairs, the carpet really needs a good clean, the floor around the neighbouring tables was strewn with dropped food. I'm sure it could have been cleaned up in-between new diners and not just left to be walked in!
The table straight in front of me was a large group of people, they were absolutely the most annoying people, overly loud and just shouting and swearing just for the sake of it. I'd have thought the owners would have put them straight but nothing. We couldn't even have a proper conversation and hear each other.
We were served our starters, my partners Starter wes cold it was samosa chaat. We let them know it was cold and the waiter said it was supposed to be, which isn't the case, then changed his mind and said it was supposed to be warm and not cold, he said it could be replaced or knock it off our bill ??
The other table were already quite drunk and continued drinking without any food been present infront of them. I went to the gents toilet where one of them had been sick in the urinal there was just so much of it! He was still being sick in the toilet cubicle, I came straight out and informed a member of staff. Who said he would get it dealt with. Meanwhile he had been taken outside to sort himself out by a few of his mates.
We were waiting for our main meals, when plates to the other table started coming out, we both just looked, we thought they had finished and were waiting to pay! We absolutely just couldn't listen to anymore of it.
We got up and went downstairs and asked the girl behind the bar to speak to the manager, she didn't even understand what we were saying. I found him at the end of the bar and told him we wouldn't be staying for our main course, I informed him of what we had seen over the last 25 minutes and that it wasn't a great dining experience so far and i didnt want to spend anymore time in there. I had my card ready to pay and he said no charge which was at least something.
We've been going to lala's since we first met and always had a nice experience here, since lockdown we haven't tried it and we were really disapointed how it's changed, even the plates for the poppadoms were dirty with bits of food remaining on them from the dishwasher. On the whole it's really gone downhill which is a shame! I wouldn't go again after this experience there are other nice places...
Read moreWent a while back as a birthday treat....food was definately good except the salad was depressingly poor, it wasnt flavoured with anything and they couldn't even be bothered to chop the tomatoes and i know for a fact what asians can do with salad can be exceptional...not at lalas though.. my main contention though was not the salad but the menu and there is a discounted menu on offer which was not pointed out at all in fact i got the impression that the waitress was instucted to do everything ahe could to hide the fact. And yes its advertised in a small black notice on the wall and the menu is also equally dismissable in size...if you dine there regularly you would no doubt be aware of its existence after a couple of visits but i do not and was not and by the time i realised half way through the meal it was too late to take advantage of the excellent discounts available. Also once upon a time it was standard and still is in some restaurants especially in bradford where they always excel imo to place a water jug and glasses at every setting and popadoms and pickles were a free thing not a horrificly priced starter option as i found at lalas...the meals were delicious however i cant deny that the chef knew his job...but the waitress was less than friendly and because of the other points mentioned i would not go back for a repeat visit nor recommend as i have experienced far superior restaurants in wakefield. Not a main concern but our seating area was right next to a walkway and we could not get comfortable due to being constantly passed and even having to move my chair or be touched by passing waiters and customers too many times to relax i did ask if we could move to a quieter area as there were plenty of unused corners but we were not allowed to move...so yeah not for me this place.. oh and the music was awful pop music and way too loud...i love asian music and always find it enhances the experience of eating asian style...you should promote your own musical offerings imo...when in rome and all that, music makes such a huge difference to the atmosphere...lalas is not for me i love all asian food and the culture but...
Read moreI wasn't impressed at all the only thing good about this restaurant is the decor we ordered a pickle tray it came quite quick but the poppadoms were nice but the dips were watered down we asked for iced water got no ice plus we had no glasses to put the water into and then we're given wine glasses to put the water in plus we had nearly finished our pickle tray before the lukewarm water arrived then the starters arrived onion baghis we had no yogurt sauce so had to ask for it twice the side salad was warm plus it was all brown round the edges it obviously hadn't been kept in the fridge also the 4 rock hard reheated dry bagis were awful then the main course arrived chicken tika masala which was served by a very rude chef then the garlic nann and chips and pilau rice we had no knives or forks so I politely asked the chef for some he grunted and came back and just threw them all down on the table and never spoke my husband asked him for some salt for his chips and he just walked away never spoke came back threw the salt on the table then just walked away without a word he never said enjoy your meal or anything polite so back to the main course the chicken is not cooked in the sauce it is a chicken tika starter just with a sauce poured over it as when u cut into the chicken it is white inside the chips were just a load of bits there was only about 8 chips that were edible all the rest were just half pieces or thin bits but the garlic nann was loverly rice was okay I certainly won't be going back to this...
