Called in on a Friday afternoon for a meal with a friend. Very impressed with decor. Staff friendly and helpful. Prices as expected. My friend had the Tofu Salad and was very pleased with her meal selection as apparently Tofu can be difficult to cook exactly right. We both had French Onion soup for starters and this was delicious. I choose Cod Goujons for my main meal, I think the goujons were hand made not frozen but were very nice anyway. I was though very umipressed with my 'MacDonald ' type skinny chips which were definitely not hand made -at this sort of venue you would expect hand made chips and anyway not many people would I think chose skinny chips? Two other things which prevented me giving a 5 star rating was the plastic bottle of vinegar provided (albeit - Sarsons) - I would purchase a few posh glass vinegar bottles which would be more in keeping with the style there. My third minor moan was that the waitress took my friend's dish away before I had finished my meal. But I will return one evening and try the wines as heard they are very nice. X Ps. Why can't I find you on the Trip...
Read moreThis was one of my first pub experience during Covid restrictions and I was impressed with the set up at Bar Saint James. It's best to pre-book a table, especially at peak times. We had reserved two tables on the outside terrace area, all tables were separated by a perspex screen to comply with the current rule of 6 persons. It's not possible to go up to the bar and order, instead you can order via the Bar Butlr app. This was very easy, choosing your drinks on the app, entering your table number then purchasing via the app by card, Google Pay our Apple Pay. Your drinks are bright by waiter shortly after. Masks are not needed whilst at your table, but when moving around the pub you must wear one. Bar Saint James is one of the upmarket pubs in Uplands, as such expect to pay a...
Read moreWhat a wonderful bar! The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of their drinks, which is very appriciated to someone who wants to try different things but doesn't have a specific drink in mind. The prices aren't actually that bad for what they offer. A great selection of spitits and wines and some beers and ciders. It's certainly not a student bar as it shuts at 11 (or so it did on Thursday when I went) but I would definitely check it out if you're looking for something interesting. If the weather is nice I also highly recommend sitting outside coz that's where we had a...
