Took my mum and 1-year old son to Blossom Cafe today at around 11:30. Atmosphere inside is great, perfect temperature and well catered in terms of high chairs. We were greeted as soon as we began to sit down and were told about ordering at the till and where menus were which I'm absolutely fine with. I think it's adds a little something in a small business like this to converse with someone at the till. Everything (that I'm aware of) is made in house. We ordered the shakshuka with a poached egg, smashed avocado on toast with a poached egg, a chai latte, and a cappuccino. It was around £28 which I expect to pay and wasn't shocked and wasn't taken aback at how cheap it was. My son was a bit crabby before his food but customers and staff were amazing with him, giving him big smiles as they walked in or past and it cheered him up no end. I was going to share my shakshuka with my son but I hadn't previously advised he had a dairy allergy, so I ordered him a smashed avocado instead (vegan option) with a poached egg. The lady who I believe to be the owner was so apologetic about having to order extra. I'll be honest, first off it was my fault and I fully admitted that and wouldn't have any of it that it was in any way, shape, or form, theirs. But also, it meant I got to have the shakshuka to myself.
My son and mum both loved the avocado. It was the perfect ripeness, and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The feta added to the taste and the toast was a good thickness. The salad garnish probably wasn't necessary but it's a nice touch. My shakshuka was amazing. The potato and aubergine in it were so soft and the richness of the dish was perfect. The bread that came with it (homemade), was baked perfectly and acted as the perfect vessel for mopping up the rest of the dish. I even took some baklava home for the family and after just having a square with a coffee, I can confirm...are brilliant. I'll definitely be back. Not only was the food brilliant, but the friendliness of the team were a huge draw. I can't recommend Blossom...
Read moreWe visited Cardiff for my best friends surprise 50th! I’d done my research being afternoon/cream tea lovers and stumbled across this little gem! I contacted Selma via instagram and she was so lovely and always got back to me, even when I was asking her questions about how to get there, as it’s about a 20 minute walk from National History museum! (Thanks to google maps- walk function with lady telling you exactly where to go 🤣) we arrived and the place is gorgeous! A flower wall with swinging chairs, so lovely photo opportunities, plush comfy beautiful coloured big seats to sit on and bone china cups and plates. Selma greeted us so warmly and was so attentive and super lovely. I think it is a family run business as that was the vibe and I think mum was also helping who was equally lovely! I can honestly say genuinely this was without a doubt THE BEST AFTERNOON/CREAM TEA we have ever tasted! And we have eaten LOTS of cream teas around the country! From the sandwiches to cakes and scones we were in heaven! The food was sooooo good, the humus was the best I’d ever tasted, sandwiches original, scones crunchy of the outside and soft in the middle and the selection of cakes was colourful, enticing and absolutely DELICIOUS! Everything tasted homemade and we couldn’t stop smiling. Selma was super attentive, refilled our tea and just made us feel so special and relaxed. The walk was worth the trek! I urge anyone coming to Cardiff looking for a afternoon/cream tea to put this on your list, don’t be put off it’s a little far out from city centre it is 100% worth it! We couldn’t finish it so took a doggy bag away with us! If only this place was in Bournemouth as we’d be regulars as ALL the food and cakes that came out around us looked fabulous! Thank you Selma so much for making the start of our trip so...
Read moreThe atmosphere is pleasant and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The food was quality, but needing some improvements.
It is a vegetarian establishment, which we did not know at first. Not a problem though as we love all foods. We thought the Gouda and sun-dried tomato sandwich sounded lovely as it was with homemade bread. I was expecting something great. We were quite disappointed with the amount of filling when it arrived. It appeared that there was a third of a slice of Gouda accompanied by a half slice of sun-dried tomato (cut into two). With crisps and lettuce, this was priced at around £8. The bread was nice, but small. It was overpriced and under filled.
The biscoff cheesecake was very nice and the other foods looked...
