If you are looking for AUTHENTIC good tasting Turkish food or prefer your kebabs but with a slight jazz, then this is the place to come. I would have to describe Troys as a home where you are greeted so warmly and made to feel very comfortable. They have a rustic turksih ambiance about the place and the generosity from the staff is just one of the many things that gets a tick in my book from this place. The dining is very casual but yet at the same time they make you feel very special and are in no rush to get rid of you and vacate the table unlike other places around Cardiff.
When it comes to generosity how many restaurants can you name that give you free authentic Turkish bread baked fresh on the premises with fresh marinated olives, authentic Turkish chilli and a garlic sauce.... all this by the way is unlimited. They host a great selection of Grilled foods....the smell and aroma that circulates this restaurant is unbelievable. You can smell it even before you get through the door. This my friends is due to them using real coals, unlike an electric grill as most kebab shops do. In which case I would like to highlight that this is NOT a kebab shop it is actually a mezze house.
My personal favourite is the grilled kebabs, chicken wings and lamb chops. All decent quality and good size portions layed on a bed of Turkish rice and salad. It is enough to make any foodies mouth water. It is perhaps one of few Turisih/Mediterranean restaurants to sell alcohol with their food as well and the prices are not steep at all. The ending to any meal in a turkish restaurant has got to be Turkish tea. Troys offer the most flavoursome apple tea and will certainly warm you up on any winter welsh night.
Do not be afraid by the modesty of the restaurant....any critic knows that the only way to anyone's heart is really and truly through their stomach and I must admit that Troys defiantly does touch the heart. I would rate the food on the level of one of the most renowned Turkish areas selling the best Turkish food in the Uk and that is Wood Green in London. These guys sure do know what they are doing with their ingredients and how to delivery on...
Read moreDecided to visit here today for an evening meal with my wife and child. This was our first visit although we have tried other similar restaurants on this road and have driven by many times wish we had done the same today .
First impressions the restaurant decor was nice although it was very dim and the music was annoying . It was quiet although it is a Saturday evening this normally sends off a warning sign but I thought it was because we visited early in the evening .
The staff and owner seemed friendly at first as he asked us if we needed any help with the menu and recommended the £30 platter to try a little of everything we opted for this . Unfortunately they do not do half rice half fries with the platter so we ordered chips separately.
It also came with a cold meze starter which to be far was not to bad it was all going ok until the main platter came it looked a little small compared to the £30 platter we have down the road at Sarays but I wish this was the worst part .
I manage to try a lamb chop and lamb rib whilst my wife was breaking up some chicken shish for our son
There are no high chairs provided at this restaurant My phone wasn't getting a signal so I asked for the WiFi unfortunately the WiFi didn't work ether .
The first bite my wife had of the platter was a kofta which unfortunately had a long hair inside she never seen it as it was embedded in the mince of the kofta :s and the restaurant is very dark.
As I showed the owner he didn't seemed surprised and said "don't worry brother it's ok I'll knock £5 off" I mention I'm unhappy to continue the meal we had only just started the platter he said he would knock it down to £17.50 which is half price I paid the man an left .
To be honest I am unhappy that I even paid that much overall I found the owners response very rude and just wanted to get out of there as both my wife and I felt sick.
Do yourself a favour and go to one of the other restaurants...
Read moreI'm not one to leave bad reviews. I don't think I've ever left a bad review in my life..But after this evening, I can't not. We booked a table for 6pm. First of all when we arrived, we were left just stood by the doorway for roughly 10-15 mins. There was 8 of us, so as you can imagine, it was quite hectic with customers coming in and out. When we finally got seated, we ordered 2 hot meze shares which stated would be enough for 3 people. When they arrived, they had 2 bits of hallumi, 2 falafel, a spring roll type thing and 2 tiny Feta triangles..in the centre was a small dollop of hummus. Definitely not worth the money and everything on the platter we thought to be rather bland. Onto the mains, we ordered 2 mixed grills, 3 lamb shishs and a special lamb dish with Aubergine sauce. Well, I have never ever been so utterly disappointed. The lamb dishes were just 4 small pieces of lamb just thrown onto a plate next to a tiny portion of rice..the mixed grills were tasteless and didn't come with what was stated on the menu. They were also absolutely tiny. Not even enough to feed a child. The special lamb dish with the Aubergine sauce was bland and there was nothing special about it. The 4 small pieces of lamb were just thrown on top of a salty sauce. There was no Aubergine in site.
We had a few soft drinks and a few beers. Our bill come to a whopping £217.
I'd avoid this place...
