I’ve been buying my bread from Pettigrew for over a year now. I’ve recently switched to the Canton branch as I’ve moved house. On the whole it’s a good bakery but the sourdough can sometimes have holes that are just too big and too consistent throughout the loaf. It’s not all the time but is super disappointing when you pay £4.40 for bread that you can’t do much with.

To avoid disappointment I intermittently started asking the waitresses to give a quick check once they sliced the bread. Tbf the one lady was really understanding and nice about it when I first asked. But the past couple of times I’ve asked I’ve got a load of attitude from the workers. The woman today who served me actually pulled a face at me and her colleague proceeded to tell me that the bakers strive for holes throughout the loaf. I felt they were very defensive and just unprofessional when I was simply trying to make sure I was happy with what I was purchasing after previously being disappointed. There was really no need for the attitude and digs. I was super nice and asked politely!

I’m done shopping here because I feel the staff are more concerned with making sure there is no waste rather than ensuring their customers get what they’re paying for. A good business model would take the...

We visited three Pettigrew locations during our stay in Cardiff!

Stuff we tried: 1..Creme brulee croissant (10 out of 10): creme diplomat is divine, crunchy exterior tops it off...visited two days in a row for this!

Plum Danish (10/10): really top notch laminated dough, jam filled center, and generous cream with lovely slices of plum on top. On par with the creme brulee croissant as my favorite

Cheese Mustard Crown (7/10): very good, savory deliciousness, with tear apart cheesy goodness

Sausage Roll (6/10): decent sausage roll, but nothing to shout about

Semolina sourdough: review is TBD!

Customer Service: we dropped one of our coffees on the floor while fumbling with our bag of pastries. The barista was kind enough to brew another Americano for us, and quickly mopped the floor while we apologized profusely. I really appreciate their gesture and reassurance that it was ok and that things like this happen 🙏🏻🥺

Seating: There is no seating inside at the Victoria Park location, but there are picnic...

Came across this place on a recent visit to Victoria Park and was in disbelief having been served at the prices charged.

I ordered two Bacon Rolls, two coffees and a pastry and it came to £23.60. I could not believe my eyes when the price was told to me and assumed there had been some sort of mistake but apparently not. I begrudgingly paid and waited for my food and drinks to arrive. And waited. And waited. 10 mins later my food arrived and a further 10 minutes later my coffees were ready. The food had gone cold by this point which was thoroughly disappointing and no apology from the staff.

I work in Kensington, a fashionable, upmarket suburb in London yet have never paid these prices. I find it amazing for what was a few rashers of bacon in a small roll and £3.90 for a latte in a suburb of Cardiff. I think the owner of this place has forgotten his roots and lost grip on reality. When I am back in Cardiff next I would be surprised if this place is still going at these prices.

The staff should wear masks...

We found this bakery in a Sunday morning accidentally a few months ago. We were wondering why people are queuing more than 20 minutes early in the morning, so we decided to have a look. First, we started with a nice bread and then continuing with sweets from croissants to biscuits or vegan products. All are delicious and high quality. I lived in France for a couple of years and we know they are famous for their bakery, but I never tasted so high quality croissants like in this bakery. The quality is amazing 😉 they are far much better than the French croissants. Now we are loyal customers and we have our favourite products. We live in Penarth and when we have a chance we are passing by to this amazing bakery. I must say staff is very friendly and provide a high standard quality service. Congratulations to the chef as well ! Totally recommend the bakery ! Thank you for making our life “sweeter”.

My recent visit to this coffee shop was a mix of highs and lows. On the positive side, the gentleman who took our order was friendly and helpful, making the initial experience quite pleasant. His welcoming attitude set a positive tone for our visit. However, the experience took a downturn at the window. The lady who served us was very unfriendly and seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Her demeanor made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, which was disappointing. Despite the mixed service, the coffee was excellent, and the cinnamon bun was a delightful treat. The quality of the food and beverages is definitely a highlight and worth noting. In summary, while the service at the window left much to be desired, the coffee shop offers great coffee and delicious cinnamon buns. Improving the consistency of customer service would greatly enhance the overall experience.
