Service was very frustrating. We ordered 4 meals and it wasn't at all packed however, we waited over 45 minutes to have our food given to us.
Managers attitude was appalling when issues about being served the wrong meals and waiting time/meals coming out different times. Didn't even mention the fact that the potatoes were so over salted we left and had to drink loads of bottled water.
We'd held off food to eat out together But after over 45 mins, my children were so grumpy and hungry/tired from waiting they could hardly even pick up their utensils or sit up to eat, so ended up having them on our laps to feed them when the food did arrive! I ended up with the shakes and stomach cramps.
The 4 meals we ordered tasted nice (apart from the sickening over salted potatoes) The staff were nice enough and we just mentioned our meals issues to make them aware.
We sat there nearly an hour without a single member of staff checking to see if we were ok OR if the rest of the food had even come
OR if my son had finished his soup which came out on its own 40 mins earlier. (we assumed 4 meals for 4 people would come out together but we let it slide)
Then later the WRONG vegetarian meal was presented. I chose one of the other three optons offered from the gent [and lady helping him] on the till. I only mentioned it when I was surprised to see a different one put on the table and I said "don't worry I'll just eat this one" (but was inwardly dissapointed as I wanted to try something different from what I cook at home)
Manager stomps over with a very confrontational manner in body language and tone of voice. He ROLLED HIS EYES and proceeded to almost tell us off for a complaint we hadn't mentioned UNTIL I corrected him. Then told us it was Our FAULT for choosing the option that was on the old till systems menu and not from the new one...like it was our fault his system wasn't updated!! Unbelievable. I only ordered from options read out.
He then said the soup (my son had) was a starter and said if we had have "given the bowl back" !!! to the kitchen we could have had our meals. There was no option given to us as to when 4 meals were supposed to come out. Most places ask....they didn't give an option. Also a bit strange that NONE of the waiting staff/kitchen staff wondered WHY the order hadn't gone out for nearly an hour! Nobody even came to the table during all this time.
Managers attitude was preposterously defensive, ignorant and excuses were laughable. Used to go regularly but no more after this; He just made it worse.
2 stars for taste of (most) dishes and polite staff...even if they did all forget about us during a relatively quiet time. -3 stars for managers attitude and not taking responsibility or resolving any issues that were...

Read moreProper oldie worldie pub in Canton with friendly staff and a reasonable looking menu (can't comment on food as we didn't order). Nice and spacious inside with a small beer garden to the rear. Only popped in for a few drinks with friends and it was busy enough to give off a good atmosphere without being packed to the rafters, and it was nice to be able to just sit down and chat. It's no A-List hangout but it doesn't pretend to be...it's just a nice proper, affordable pub that does what it says on the tin, and better than Wetherspoons in my opinion. It does look a little in need of a makeover but it didn't matter to us as we'd left the Bentley and Jimmy Choos at home in favour of comfort 😉. The staff were very warm, chatty and helpful, which is always a win in my book. Will be back and would...
