Wish I could give a zero star rating for this restaurant. We thought that the reviews were just teething problems, that it wouldn't be so bad. We were very wrong. Waited 1 hour and 30 minutes for the soggiest dosa I've ever had. And ten minutes more for a mango lassi. Then twenty minutes more for a totally BURNT rava dosa which they still expected us to pay for. I really dont blame the staff, there's no damned manager yelling and taking charge. When I worked in a kitchen in the for the same restaurant capacity there were four working in the back with a proper head chef and dishwashers ready to take the plates, I saw chefs upping and leaving during rush hour, just disappearing for breaks, no coordination. Starter came a little burnt, then main was slightly underdone, then they served my mum a burnt rava dosa with what I can only describe as the worst masala I've seen inside, with that Lidl supermarket frozen mixed veg in it - something that I've never seen before. Sambar was not good. These are the same prices that South Indian restaurants charge in East Ham, in London, but the food here in the Cardiff branch is far worse. We were sat in this place for two hours, they serve Uber Eats before actual customers on the tables. If you're in Cardiff and dying for some actual south indian food, you'll probably be better off buying the spices from the sri lankan shop off gabalfa roundabout and making it at home. At the end I was looking longingly at the kitchen and thinking maybe I should just start cooking my own dinner in there. the people in cardiff do deserve better! I was really looking forward to the opening of this restaurant as a Tamil person in Wales with barely any quality restaurants that serve these dishes, and I was sorely disappointed. After a month of opening I really expected better. We are sad as South Indian restaurants in this city have never managed to maintain a great standard of cooking; although perhaps Curry Hut on City Road is changing that. I recommend you go...
Read moreChennai Dosa is an absolute gem of a restaurant that I highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious South Indian cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with friendly staff and a warm ambiance that sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience.
The menu is extensive with a wide variety of dosas, idlis, vadas, and curries to choose from, each bursting with authentic flavors and spices that transport you straight to the streets of Chennai. The dosas are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, filled with tasty fillings like masala potatoes or spicy chutneys. The idlis are light and fluffy, while the vadas are crispy and savory.
I particularly love their assortment of chutneys and sambar, which complement the dishes perfectly and add an extra layer of depth to the flavors. The presentation of the food is also top-notch, with each dish being beautifully plated and served with care.
In addition to the amazing food, Chennai Dosa also offers excellent customer service. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and always willing to accommodate any special requests or dietary restrictions. Whether you are a regular or a first-time visitor, you are sure to feel welcomed and well taken care of here.
Overall, Chennai Dosa is a must-visit restaurant for anyone who appreciates authentic South Indian cuisine. The combination of delicious food, warm hospitality, and vibrant atmosphere makes it a standout dining destination that I will continue to frequent...
Read moreChennai dosa clicks to your mind that its an Indian restaurant. But the interiors or any decor used doesn't depict anything related to India. The vibes of being in an Indian restaurant is only the chaios they have built. We had to wait for more than 1 hour for our order to reach our table. The chef served us with burnt dosa. How could he/she even have the heart to do that? They charge us so heavily and no justice provided in return.
As my observation cutlery was not placed on the tables, people had to get the fork and spoon on their own. They said repeat orders were not taken but let new customers into the restaurant.
If asked about the service they blame it on weekends rush, they need to figure out a way to properly treat their customers.
Many left the food as it was burnt and were disappointed after having such a long wait.
They need to hire some good chef if they would like to have some satisfied customers. And also provide them with necessary grocery. As we can see the dosa being prepared from the table there is hadly any batter in the cup which the chef keeps banging on the tawa.
The funny part was when asked for chutney the waitress took our plate to the counter to get it refilled istead of providing in a cup. They need to be trained with basic serving manners.
Overall I would never go back to this place, and no not recommend it...
