profits before people. Not allowing an elderly 90 year old lady with mobility issues, who regularly visits this cafe and is a regular customer sit down for 5 minutes in a cafe which was NOT full because you had customers booked informal the rugby who weren't even there yet.

Then the owner, 'Duncan' had the audacity to speak to my sister who calmly asked him to address her complaint over the phone while he told her to 'mind her own business and I'll mind mine'. I heard you, it was on loud speaker and you HUNG UP. You also continued to harass my sister by calling her on many different numbers. You may have been in business 35 years mate but carry on with that attitude and you won't last. We will be leaving negative reviews on every site.

I would highly recommend other coffee shops in the high St such as Jaspers tea rooms, or other restaurants such as summer palace where our family always get a massive welcome.

Unfortunately he also gets his mates to write positive reviews for him on Trip Advisor (username go83473) too so any negative reviews are cancelled out. He is now trying to intimidate and threaten us with legal action because we posted an honest, truthful review of what happened. He denied our version of events before even speaking to the member of staff involved so he has absolutely no idea what happened. His response to the negative review on Trip Advisor is self explanatory of his lack of professionalism and compassion - going on about some tai chi class he allows there apparently makes him 'elderly and disabled friendly' when it clearly doesn't if you turn them...

Disappointed Regular – Standards Have Slipped

I’ve been a loyal customer of Porro for years, having visited well over a dozen times, but sadly, my recent experiences have been increasingly underwhelming. My latest visit for Sunday lunch, on what should have been a special Father’s Day, was particularly disappointing.

The food quality has noticeably declined over the last few visits, and this time was no exception. The lamb, which carries a £4 supplement on top of the set Sunday lunch menu, was so fatty it was inedible. My partner couldn’t eat hers at all. When we mentioned this to the waitress, we received little more than a shrug, and the charge remained on the bill.

Service was also poor. They had run out of kids’ menus and we were left waiting around 15 minutes for someone to print some, which was a surprising oversight given the occasion. While our waitress was friendly and clearly doing her best, she appeared overwhelmed and unsupported due to the apparent lack of staff.

Drinks arrived after I had finished my main, and portion sizes felt smaller than in the past. To top it all off, the bill included a 10% service charge, despite our table being only four people. The menu clearly states it is added for parties of five or more. I usually tip on top of the service charge, but on this occasion I asked for it to be removed, as it felt a bit sly.

It is frustrating to see a restaurant I once championed decline in quality and consistency. Regrettably, I won’t be recommending Porro any longer. Quite...

Went here today around 11 for coffee with my friend, the waiter we had was already bad vibes from the moment he saw us walk in. He seemed annoyed at us as if we had done something wrong and wouldn’t even let us see a drinks menu to order. He then gave me a coffee with regular milk instead of with oat as requested (as i’m intolerant to dairy) and after tasting and knowing it was clearly not oat, I went inside and politely double checked with him to which he immediately got defensive and started accusing me saying I didn’t ask for that ??? Before this I wasn’t even upset as I understand it’s a simple mistake to forget and could happen to anyone but the defensiveness and accusing tone was so horrible. When he later brought it out remade he never even let out a “sorry about that”, regardless of who he thought was at fault it’s just terrible customer service - get a grip! If I were more serverly intolerant to milk this could’ve gone so much more worse and I hope he at least realises this.

I’m more than happy to have the footage of above the door camera checked to hear me specifically asking for oat milk, seeing as this is where our order was taken since we weren’t even allowed to sit. Nasty man and ruined experience, still upset not a single apology was given, i’ve worked as a server for 3+ years and have never spoken to anyone like that. Could not recommend this...

Underwhelming. Let me start with the good: the goat’s cheese starter and the tiramisu were nice. The bad: despite being a 2-person booking, we were sat on a 4-person table in a loud, busy room upstairs - disappointing as there were spaces in the adjacent room with multiple vacant 2-person tables throughout the evening. Mains were poor: my lamb shoulder was so dry that I couldn’t finish it. It was especially underwhelming considering the price of almost £30. My fiancée had an average fish cake as the hake special had run out - however we then overheard the table behind us being offered the same special but with sea bass to replace it, and the table opposite who had ordered before us had sea bass too when their mains came out. The fish cake itself was bland and dry and the serving was stingy as you can see in the photo. Our waitress was kind enough but at no point did she ask how our food was or try to make any sort of conversation- no passion for service and my impression was she just wanted to get through the shift. I had the Sangiovese red wine which was average. Overall, a little disappointing as last winter my fiancée had eaten here and had a really good experience. Therefore, we were excited for tonight, especially as we were both celebrating the start of annual leave, but it fell far from expectations and its strong reputation.

We had our wedding meal at Porro and what a delightful experience it was. We requested to decorate the room upstairs however the team were more than happy to do this for us or help in any way. Nothing was too much and Becky/Sam were absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The food was absolutely enjoyed by everyone and we were able to do work around meals for those who had food allergies with no problem at all. Big thank you to Becky and the team on our day, you all made it so much easier for us and you treated us with so much care and honestly would recommend anybody who is considering a smaller wedding to book Porro! Thank you, you are a wonderful team and with absolutely wonderful food and drinks. Some photos added of the room and hopefully can inspire others. It was really reasonably priced and we had fantastic service.
